A Classic Story Beautifully Illustrated,

This review is from: The Legend of King Arthur: A Young Reader's Edition of the Classic Story by Howard Pyle (Hardcover)
I believe the best way to introduce young children to the Arthurian legend is to pull out the best inidivual stories and retell them with all of their narrative richness. In "The Legend of King Arthur", David Brgenicht uses Howard Pyle's 1902 retelling of the classic English story as the basis for his story. From Pyle's narrative, Borgenicht retells the story of how young Arthur pulled the sword out of the anvil. Its Pyle's story retooled with modern language that a young child can understand. As an added bonus, the art work is done by the Italian Studio L.R. Galante. The drawings are beautifully detailed and have that out of control architectural style for which Italian children's book illustrators are famous. This book is highly recommended.

This adaptation of Pyle for children is very well done. It takes Arthur from birth to the reclamation of his birthright, using language kids can understand.
