4.0 out of 5 stars Classic anime.
This anime is a great big fantasy adventure. Actually it's pretty short, but it is still good, especially forthe price you can get it at these days. The animation is sorta old school, there is some fan service, but above all it has a solid original storyline and includes a few kick ass scenes. The one downfall is the flaming eighties ending. Well, you can't win them all...

Legend of Lemnear has amazing graphical quality despite its age. Too bad that this 45 minute "movie" has bad dubbing, not much of a plot, and shallow characters. Legend of Lemnear has amazing graphical quality despite its age. Too bad that this 45 minute "movie" has bad dubbing, not much of a plot, and shallow characters. But, it's done by Satoshi Urushihara, so you can except some really detailed visuals and a good deal of nudity. The theme song is also good, as is the background music, although it tends to drop in and out of tune every ten seconds or so. I don't know if it's just my copy. The last fight against Veroll and his four (!) forms was actually pretty cool, and had a sweet background song to it, audio problems aside. But as it stands, it's too short. There's not much of a plot to it, but the animation was definitely its main point. A decent rent.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Take on Classic Fantasy Story, May 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Legend of Lemnear (DVD)
Legend is similiar to Record of the Lodoss War, but it has a distinctive tilt toward the harder edge of realistic characters. Legend is nearly dark in some areas, with evil lords who actually act evil as they abuse, kill or enslave thier captives when they can. Also, with a seriously thought-out magic system, engrossing and wide-ranging (not to mention multi-depth) story and cutting edge art, it is a must have for not only the anime fan, but also anyone who enjoys a dip into the world of fantasy and sci-fi. I've seen them on both VHS and DVD. And I'll never let them gather dust on either format.

The Legend of Lemnear is pretty much your basic girl seeking revenge. It is nicely done, and the artwork is very good.

3.0 out of 5 stars A duel Review, November 27, 2002
There are 2 movies in this pack so it make sense to do 2 reviews. Lets start with the first.

1: Legend of Lemnear 3 stars

LEgend of Lemnear is about a silver haired warrior who is out to rescue her friend and avenge her parents murder. The main focus is in the area where she finds the wizard who reveals her powers. However along the way she gets captured by a slave owner who spends all of his time in his thrown room surrounded by women. Eventually she escapes and finds her friend and saves the world all in a 45 minute short.

This is ok , a renter at best (or a cheap purchase) but nothing magnificent.

2: Garzeys Wing 3 stars.

Probably pilot for an anime series in japan that just did not take off because this is split into 3 episodes. The story here is that a young man on his way to a class reunion gets split into 2 entities as his mind travels to a world at war while his body remains in his world. He inadvertadly drags a fairy with him and is revealed to be the Holy Knight Garzeys Wing. He is doubtful but when an army of soldiers are chasing after you one must trust their instincts. When he turns into the holy knight (the few times that happens) it's nothing spectacular. All it is that these glowing wings sprout from his feet and allow him to take flight. Overall this is around 90 minutes and is also a renter, not a keeper.

So this averages out to 3 stars and unless you are a fantasy anime collector then your best bet is to just avoid these titles, or to just rent them instead. Lemnear is to short and Garzey can be just plain dull to be worth keeping.

I was trying to get a few older anime DVDs and this one fit the bill. As one other reviewer said, it reminded me a lot of the Heavy Metal ending section. Very Nice!

1.0 out of 5 stars Get Something Else, June 12, 1999
This review is from: Legend of Lemnear [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Too much rape/abuse, virtually no character development, and a ridiculously simple ending. If you must watch it, listen to the cool music at the beginning, then fast forward to when she's running up the staircase, ignoring the numerous disquieting rape/abuse scenes. The fighting at the end is amusing. Then, take note of the mindbogglingly silly ending. Then, throw it away.

If you really liked the part in Return of the Jedi when Jabba was abusing the slaves, you'll get a kick out of this anime; it takes up about 1/4 of the actual playing time. Otherwise, don't bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars Painfully bad., December 6, 1999
This review is from: Legend of Lemnear [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Legend of Lemnear through sheer stupidity attained a legendarily bad ranking in my book. This movie takes the attitude "plot? Who needs it! " I'm not sure of the release date of the movie Heavy Metal, but I have a distinct and sickening feeling that this entire movie was just an adaptation of the *well done* last sequence of that film. The fact that it took itself seriously was one of the worst things about this film. I mean, come on, funny haired chick wears little or no armor seeking revenge on Big Bad Guy? And the idea for the prophesy was pitiful. Read correctly, the main character's only purpose was to stick around so that the "champion of bronze" guy could whoop up on the bad guy. Blech.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could have been so much better, October 24, 1999

This anime is actually quite nice and enjoyable to watch. The character designs are great, done by Satoshi Urushihara a famous artist in japan, and the action and visual scope is great. However, the movie suffers from a pretty short running time which makes it feel a little rushed. If the back story had been given full treatment, not just in flashbacks, and if more sub-plots had been included then it could have been great. If you're a fantasy, or action anime fan this is probably good choice. However, if character interaction and a deep plot or more your thing Lemnear is probably not what your looking for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ughh... just Ughh..., June 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Legend of Lemnear [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie was one of the worst anime films I have ever seen. It reminded me of '80s rock videos and I couldn't help myself from screaming out in the middle of the movie, "Thunder Cats Gooooo!!!!!" Translation, it was just really bad. No character developement, we have no idea who the Bronze Champion is, or why these people suddenly become champions. Why the Gold champion was tossed away into the magical forest, or whatever it is called. as i was saying, ughh... just ughh... When a movie uses fairie dust as an attack to kill an apponent, you know its destined for failure if a human above the age of three or has stopped playing with my little ponies is watching it. In summary, do not buy this movie, don't watch it, don't even talk about it.
