Born in Washington, D.C. in 1958, Ann (Eble) Cannon grew up in the Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel areas of South Jersey. She graduated from Lenape Regional High School in 1976 and attended West Virginia University for two years before transferring to Temple University in 1978. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Temple in 1980. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Small Publishers Association of North America (SPAN).
Mrs. Cannon wrote the original version of The Guardian Lepraclone in 1979, long before human genetic cloning was technologically feasible. She credits a Temple professor, Jacqueline Steck, with providing the encouragement that helped keep her dream to publish this story alive and well for almost two decades, and her mother, who died suddenly in 1994, with giving her the determination and compelling desire to have her books published.
Believing that parents are the key to instilling a life-long love of reading in their children, Mrs. Cannon's aim is to produce books that adults will enjoy as well, and want to share with their kids. Mrs. Cannon has worked as a proofreader, copy editor and technical writer. She now devotes all her time to writing books for children and visiting schools to promote reading.
