5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Truly AWESOME!
This book is a must-read! It's about how Martin travels to the northlands to find out what happened to his father, Luke the Warrior.

Vilu Daskar is not a very nice stoat! He abused his crew, once having some of them whipped then doused in salt water. Ouch!

Luke is always after Daskar in his tiny vessel, the Sayna, named after Martin's mother. Beau the hare is so...

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing
I have been enamored with Brian Jacques since the first Redwall book I read. However, in both _Marlfox_ and _The Legend of Luke_, I have begun to get a be a bit disappointed in Jacques clumsy introduction of mediocre poetry into the plot of the book. Perhaps Jacques is getting a bit fond of his own voice, but the stories and characters lack freshness and energy...

Luke is always after Daskar in his tiny vessel, the Sayna, named after Martin's mother. Beau the hare is so funny, his whole crew is. This book is filled with the usual action, adventure, and sadness that is in all the other Redwall books. It has a very sad ending. Sad, but extremely heroic. To those of you that have read it, you know what I mean! And Ranguvar Foeseeker the squirrel warrior, whoa... she's cool! She's one of the most savage warriors in the whole series!

You learn lots of secrets too, like about how Saint Ninian's was built, how the tapestry was made, and all that stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Newest Redwall Novel a legend in the making, May 23, 2000

The Legend of Luke by Brian Jacques

On a misty summer morning, a stranger arrives at the Redwall Abbey. However, as soon as Trimp the Hedgehog enters the Abbey, she immediately causes a commotion. As she works in the fields, she sings the song of her homeland, little does she know she sings of Luke the Warrior, father of the Redwall hero Martin. Martin, having never known his warrior father, is filled with curiosity and wonder. He must know more, and eventually he, Gonff the prince of mouse thieves, and Trimp, travel to the North shores to uncover the secret of Luke the Warrior. Little do they know what legend they will uncover.

In this thrilling saga of the Redwall Series ( It takes place chronologically after Mossflower and before Redwall ), Brian Jacques once again mixes animal life into a medieval fairy tale. He descriptively paints a tapestry into your mind to make you feel every as if you were actually there. He holds you in suspense and wonder until it's over.

In my personal opinion I enjoyed the book. After a slow start, it immediately picks up. The vivid description lets you use your imagination to no end. The battle strategy and plot was astounding, and the character development was terrific. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys adventure, and anyone who has an imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book!, January 30, 2000
In the beginning of The Legend of Luke, Martin the Warrior, Gonff Prince of Mousethieves, Dinny Foremole, and Trimp the Hedgehog travel to the Northland Cliffs in search of anything that would help Martin discover what happened to his father, Luke. Along the way they find many friends and foes, including an otter named Folgrim, the Guosim Shrews, a tribe of Dunehogs (Hedgehogs), a small squirrel named Chugger, and a funny group of vermin lead by a fox.

After Martin finds members of his fathers old crew, the story really begins. Vilu Daskar has just smashed Luke's tribe on the Cliffs, and has killed Luke's wife, Sayna. Luke vows to get revenge, and to settle the score with his arch enemie, Vilu. Luke evenually gets his paws on a ship, and with a small crew, takes off after Vilu and his slaveship, the Goreleech. To make a long and great story short, Vilu Daskar and his vermin die, unfortunatly, as does Luke. But knowing that his father was ever the warrior, and that he stood true to his promise and got revenge, Martin travels home to Redwall with a great weight lifted from his shoulders.

The Legend of Luke really deserves more than 5 stars, and is the best Redwall book (in my humble oppinion). Brian Jacques really is a great writer, and deserving of every bit of praise that he gets.

This is most definately the best Redwall book Brian Jacques has written yet! This is for all of us who were dissapointed that none of his books since Martin the Warriar and Mossflower were about Martin. This book has all of your favorite characters from Mossflower; Martin, Gnoff, Bella and more!Martin leaves Redwall with a small entourage; Gonff (of course), and a few other friends, to try to find what happened to his father, Luke. READ THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Legend of Luke, a Legend among books, March 13, 2000
By A Customer
I think that one who loves the Redwall series, and those who have not heard of it, should read The Legend of Luke. The Legendof Luke is the best book I have read in a long time. It combines action, fantasy, and adveture into the plot, which makes it a H.T.P.D book (or a Hard To Put Down book). It has all the elements of a great, and in my opinion deserves an award. This book is a prelude to the other Redwall books. It has awesome characters which feel so real that when you hear the door-bell ring you expect Martin, the warrior mouse, to walk in the room and do his dangerous "Sword Dance". There was never a dull moment in The Legend of Luke. I thought that some parts of the book were so good I had to reread them, so I could experience the thrill again. The plot is one of the best parts of this book. If the auther were not Brian Jacques I would wonder how he thought of it. It stars Martin, a warrior mouse, who wants to find his father, Luke. Some of his friends from Redwall abbey decide to help him. On the way to Martin's old home they pick up some new and intresting characters, which include a plump baby squirrel and a cannibal otter. If you want to knw if they succeed in their quest get this book! Overall I loved The Legend of Luke. I think this is the best Redwall book yet. If I had to point out a problem in this book I would say that the climax gets so intense that I wanted to flip ahead and see what happens. If you are looking for a book packed with fun and adventure, then The Legend of Luke is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best one yet?, March 27, 2000

I think that this could very well be the best Redwall novel yet. At the beginning I didn't think much of it. But when Martin reached the Arfship it got really good. I loved hearing about Luke and how he defeated his enemy for his tribe and son. It is also very interesting to read about when the abbey was first built. All of my favorite characters are in this book too, Gonff, Bella, and Martin. I love Gonff. Brian Jacques must be really creative to think up all of those poems that Gonff always chants. Well, all in all, it is a wonderful book. The first and third parts of the novel aren't worth much unless you are really into Redwall. But the third part is extremely good and will keep you seated motionless for hours until it's over. I can't wait until Lord Brocktree comes out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jacques scores again!, January 12, 2000

I purchased the UK edition of "The Legend of Luke" a few months ago because I'm such a Redwall nut. I've had the opportunity to re-read this gem a few times. If your a fan of the series, then all the reasons you are a fan, are in the 12th edition to the series!

Brian Jacques is the J.R.R. Tolkien or the Richard Adams of our era. His material will be being read and thoroughly enjoyed generations from now. As for right now, his works are some the most cross generational pieces of literature on the market today. What's not to love about critters with swords? :)

Everyone whom I have recommended and pointed towards the Brian Jacques Redwall series, have come away saying thank you! If your already hooked like me, then the purchase of this book is a given. BUT if your new and wondering what all the hub bub is about Brian Jacques and the Redwall series ... why not find out for yourself? It will be some of the best money you've spent in a while for entertainment. Long live Redwall!

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I could have kept reading!, March 16, 2000
Brian Jaques has outdone himself . . .

The Legend of Luke reviels most of the secrets to Martin's past you didn't get in Martin the Warrior.

Take my word for it, the cast of charecters is totally believable and lovable.

If you aren't familiar with Gonff, you'll laugh at his very personality.

Martin is Martin, truly. I saw a side I never did see otherwise.

Let me see. . . oh yes.

A sunny day outside, inside, a torrent of rain and rope burns from the book. I felt it. The cold, wet sea water, the rain, the rope burns. . . Book Two in The Legand of Luke let me feel how Luke (Martin's Dad) must have felt. . . It was almost too much. Jaques leaves the reader hanging after each page. . . your heart screams for more and your mind sees it like you were there. When it's finally over, you feel like you've been through ever scene. . .

Five stars isn't enough. Six stars isn't enough. Maybe ten. . . read and be swept away by the incredible world of Brian Jaques.
