Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This book is NOT your typical mermaid tale.  It was especially important to me during the age of 17 when I originally wrote it.
It helped me to express how I felt about school, people who are different, and it let me take a mental vacation as I traveled with Lana and her family.
Years later I was finally able to put it to page and was inspired by Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and it helped me to write a better story.
It also helped me during a difficult time of finding out that I had cancer and going through two separate rounds of radiation treatments.
I credited my youngest daughter as Assistant Editor because she read my typewritten manuscript to me one chapter at a time during those difficult days.
The sequel (Legend of the Mer II The New Guardian) continues the journey of Lana and her family.
Sheri L. Swift is currently writing the third book in the series.   : )

More About the Author

I love to create in the Fantasy realm. I like to write contemporary as in the case of the Legend of the Mer series, but I also like to write literary fiction as with The Hart of Telendaria.
I mostly write Young Adult, but my stories would be enjoyed by anyone looking for the unusual, adventure, love, encouragement and hope through even the darkest storms.

LEGEND OF THE MER SERIES:
I originally wrote this story when I was seventeen in my junior year of high school; in my creative writing class.
After that, I say life happened and I went on to marry and have four daughters.
When my baby finally entered College, I began to rewrite my story.
Although I was raised a West Coast girl, my family and I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in 1995.
We quickly fell in love with the East Coast and began vacationing there. After my daughters went on a Mission trip which included time on Ocracoke Island along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I began to draw inspiration for my Safe Harbor Island; which was first written as a West Coast island.
I believe Ocracoke's rich history inspired me to write a better story.
Hope you continue the journey with the sequel (LEGEND OF THE MER II ~ The New Guardian). I'm currently writing the third in this series.

THE HART OF TELENDARIA AN ELVEN LOVE STORY:
This story was partly created in my mind as a child and then combined with a Pixie story I wrote between having babies at the age of 22.
It was the first large manuscript I had ever written, but knew it would take a lot of effort to do it justice and didn't have the strength earlier to write it.
I especially wanted to publish this one for my grandchildren to read one day and to share it with anyone needing a little adventure with love, perseverance, joy and hope. ;)

I'm a wife, mother and grandmother of eleven; they are the joy in my life.
I believe in the power of prayer. I'm also a cancer survivor.
I consider myself to be an inspirational writer and I enjoy writing poetry. I generally write Young Adult, but all my books cross over for those who enjoy an uplifting story.

The suspense in the story was very predictable.

I've always wanted to read a mermaid story, having the first I read disturbed me and not finishing it I was skeptical to read this book.

Poor writing, awful plot, little character development.

Wow! I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the mer concept and the book was so clean! No foul language, no sex, no drugs. It was refreshing to read a good story that had relationships with depth and thought, not whirlwind love-triangle disasters. I didn't want it to end and can't wait for the sequel. Thank you Sheri Swift for deciding to publish your story you wrote years back!

I recently read the book titled "Legend of the Mer". I have to admit I was a bit hesitant because I have never really been "into" mermaids. I was afraid I would become bored. But i bit the bullet and downloaded the book and read it. Boy was I wrong.
The book is about a girl named Lana. Lana was born with some physical deformities and she never quite "fit in". She was raised by her father who tried to shelter her, maybe a little to much. Her mother drowned when Lana was very young, and her father was very secretive about her death. He would never let her in the water. She secretly started taking swimming lessons and found another world she never knew existed. This lead Lana on an exciting journey under the sea. I'll stop here because I don't want to give anymore of the story line away. I have to say that I truly enjoyed reading this book. I was actually upset when I finished it, I wanted the story to keep going. I can't wait for the sequel!

I thought is was a decent read. The book definitely progressed quite quickly. But i enjoyed it. The story line was neat, since it was about mermaids.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It can be read by anyone of any age. I didn't have to cope with graphic sexual details, coarse language or dubious moralities. I enjoyed the character development of the main protagonist. It felt as though the author was giving us a peep into another world. It became a little utopian but I have room for that. The main themes seem to be love, faith, forgiveness and restoration. Thanks for not charging a high price or I would not have bought it and I would have missed out.

It was an interesting read, but not the most exciting selection for a mature male reader who prefers fantasy/science fiction.

The book has a relatively good plot, but seems like it was written by a 6 year old. It was choppy, boring, and had way too many grammatical mistakes. I couldn't make it past the first few chapters, which was disappointing. It was a waste of my money, and I wish that I hadn't bought it.

This book was a complete surprise. I downloaded a sample and when I got to the end I simply had to buy it just to race to the end. I tore through this book in just one day! I quickly looked for the follow up book and was so disappointed that I had to wait. Because seriously, I would have paid more to get the next book. Leave your expectations at the door because this author not only knows how to tell a story, but more importantly she paints a beautiful world that made me want to stay. Bravo!!
