I am building a library for my daughter who was born in China and I am so pleased to have found this book. The story is about about a girl named Dolma who lives in the Wolong mountains with her 4 sisters in Sichuan province. During the day Dolma tends to her sheep and also collects herbs & flowers for the villagers. One day a white cub came and from that day on stays among her flock. One day while gathering flowers she comes back to her flock and notices a snow leopard who is attacking the white cub. And so Dolma comes to the rescue of the hurt white cub and in the end defends her flock and is killed doing so. The villiagers, Dolma's sisters and the white cubs all morn her death. The sisters all want to join their sister in death and the mountains open up and take all 4 sisters to their sister.

I love the illistrations of this book and that is retold from a Chinese legend. I think it will be a while before I read this book to my daughter. Especially if your daughter or son is born in the province of Sichuan, PRC.

This is a great book telling the story of how the panda became black and white. Like I said it's a must for panda lovers.
