5.0 out of 5 stars More action then the original
I've played this game for about 10+ hours so far and love it. The controls are pretty good. The camera movement works better then other games I've played. And this game is packed full of action. The only warning I would give is that if you've only played some of the original Spyro games then you'll be in for a shock. This game has almost all fighting and no puzzles...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Like Other Spyro Games, November 20, 2007

This review is from: The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (Video Game)
I am a HUGE Spyro fans, going back to the old PlayStation. The first 3 Spyro PlayStation games were the best, and when Spyro went to GameCube, it started to go downhill.

"Enter the Dragonfly" was okay, but it had major glitches. "A Hero's Tail" was better, more challenging, and enjoyable. When they started the "Legend of Spyro" series with "The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning" they lost me. The series lost the elements that made it great. I only played the game once, and since I've owned "Eternal Night" for the Wii, I've only played it twice.

What I don't like about the "Legend" series is that they are too focused on battles. In the previous games, you had to comeplete challenges and mini-games (in the first Spyro you had to free dragons, in the second you had to collect orbs and talismans, in the third you had to collect dragon eggs, in "dragonfly" you had to collect Dragonflys). These are the aspects that made the other games fun.

The GOOD POINTS of this game:
Graphics are good, and the voices are superbly done
The levels are elaborate and detail-oriented
GREAT soundtrack

I will break out this game and see if I enjoy it more as I play it, but I don't see that happening.

Overall, very disappointed with the direction of Spyro and hope they return to its roots.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's just OK..., October 29, 2007
This review is from: The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (Video Game)
This is actually a combination review of my experience with the game and my 12-yr old daughter's. We rented this game and only played it for a short time, but I've seen enough to feel like I can write a review.

From my perspective, this game is 4 stars. I've been playing video games for years, and I felt this was a much better than average game. I hadn't played any Spyro games previously, so I didn't know what to expect and don't have any history to compare with. Visually, the game is great. The motion controls are pretty intuitive, and all of the Wii buttons are used. The action is fast-paced and pretty straightforward. Upgrading attacks is a nice bonus.

However, a couple picky things I didn't enjoy so much were the everlasting cut scenes between levels and some of the backgrounds. It's great to tell a story and advance the plot, but some of the cut scenes seemed to take forever. Also, some of the levels were extremely dark, and it was very difficult to see any detail to pick out enemies, paths, etc.

Overall, I liked the game, but I'm glad I rented it instead of buying.

Now for something completely different...My daughter is not a huge video game fan, but she enjoys playing the Wii. She likes to play tennis, bowling, and boxing on Wii Sports. We played Fantastic 4 for a couple hours together and had a lot of fun. However, she was barely luke warm to this game. Her response when I asked her about it was, "It's OK." She told me she had some trouble keeping the buttons straight, and she basically got bored, not frustrated, within about an hour. She shut the game off and didn't ask to play it again.

If you play video games, especially Wii games, regularly, I would recommend renting this game before purchasing. However, if you're not a big gamer, this game may not be for you.

The early Spyro games were just the opposite. But I actually prefer the game this way then with a bunch of silly races or puzzles.

This is the second game in the Legend of Spyro trilogy and is difficult, though not as hard as the third one. It still focuses on combat using attacks and elemental powers, but there are more bosses, and the enemies are harder to defeat. In this game, Spyro can temporarily stop time to slow down opponents and get the upper hand. The elements usable are fire, ice, earth, and electricity. The second attacks for these moves have drastically changed, but are just as useful. Health and breath bars can be increased with masks obtainable in the game, and another elemental power is available if you defeat the game. In the bonus features, artwork and five specialized fights are availabe when meeting certain conditions. All previous characters are in the game, plus a new character called the Chronicler. There is more of a variety of enemies and bosses. The graphics are very good. This game may dissapoint the old Spyro series fans, but anyone who likes a good storyline and tough battles will probably like this game. It recommended that you use the classic controller, not the Wii remote and nunchuk. Note: a movie will come out in theaters on April 10 of 2010 about the previous installment unless it is delayed.

This game is incredible! First, It has a very well done plot that makes you want to know what happens next and will throw you a few surprises to keep you on your toes. Second, the controls for the wii version are very engaging. It makes you do things like swing the remote up to knock a foe into the air were you can air melee them ( which requires a lot of remote swinging and nunchuck punching). Third, the gameplay is very addictive. It grows and improves over the last game in the series. Like, In the last game spyro gets 4 breath powers fire, ice, earth, and electricity. But, in this game the breath powers are even cooler than before. Like, with the earth breath you can make a ball-n-chain and swing it around to send the enemy flying. Or, with the electric breath you can make a "depth mine" that you control when it explodes. With ice you can make Spyro's tail freeze and swing it in a circle to knock all surrounding enemies in the air and freezing them at the same time. And, with fire you get homing fireballs ( once you upgrade to that level ).Forth, The graphics are well done and very detailed.

I noticed that some people say the graphics are "poor" and "so dark that you can't see", Well, it should be "dark" when you are in a CAVE or in a THICK FOREST. Even when you are in a "dark" area you can still SEE everything( and you are not in "dark" areas all the time). The graphics are so good that you can see small leaves falling to the ground and little beams of sunlight filtering though the layers of tree branches above. the grass moves when you walk through it like it would in real life and things like lava have a light-giving affect when you are in the "dark". If that is not good graphics than I do not know what is.

In summery, this game is engaging, addictive, has a great plot, and has great graphics. What more does a video game need?

4.0 out of 5 stars The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (for Wii) Review, December 19, 2010

I accidentally bought this game for Playstation, not paying attention. I have a Wii, so I had to buy the Wii version and gave this one away. So I played it, but didn't enjoy it because it didn't hold the bit of promise we got from the first game, A New Beginning. The monkeys no longer had their hilarious howls and laughter and I really missed tossing them around with his Earth Tornado blast like he had in the first game. It was extremely hard, it seemed more trouble than it was worth. Whenever Spyro dies you have to watch the small clips AGAIN. When I finally got to the last challenge, the game glitch'd out. Instead of going to the final movie clip that ends the game, Spryo is frozen and is knocked off the platform by the boss. Hopefully it was just in the codec of that particular disk.

Hopefully Dawn of the Dragon has much more to enjoy than just impossible tasks and glitches. Though I'm not the best gamer, and anyone with great skill that's looking for a real challenge will surly enjoy it.

This was an awsome game to play, I had loads of fun and the game played perfectly. I had no idea that the Eternal Night was the second installment in the Legend of Spyro games. I was happy to finally play this game so that the beginning of Spyro Dawn of the Dragon now makes more sense. Thanks for the amazing game. Long live Spyro!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, June 3, 2009
This review is from: The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (Video Game)
I enjoyed this game. But -- After owning and playing Zelda, I guess I am spoiled to the better graphics and much better control handling. Many places in the game, there should have been better target control with flying Spyro, and other game movements. I have this for the Wii Systema and I felt like I was struggling to have efficient control over the character. For one thing, if you miss a vital token, it would be nice to be able to return to previous areas that have been played to replay or retrieved missed items. You can do this in Zelda and it makes for a better game.

It is a nice family created game and I hope they continue with sequels and improving grapics, game control movements, and longer game play. I will purchase the sequels for the Wii.

This review is from: The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (Video Game)
I bought this for my 12 year old, daughter. She is fascinated, challenged and frightened by it, all at the same time. This is her first experience with Wii. It took her a few hours and at first it was a bit frustrating to figure out all the different aspects of the game, and how to use the nunchuk to conrol Spyro. She has it down now and even though she knows how to control Spyro, it still is challenging, fun, and frightening.
