Book Description

February 18, 2010
Six months after the alien Kreelan Empire launched its invasion of human space, the Confederation of Humanity, a coalition of human worlds banding together for self defense, is rapidly growing.

Unfortunately, not all human worlds want to join the Confederation. Some, like Saint Petersburg, don't believe the tales of alien invaders, and think that the formation of the Confederation is nothing more than a veil over Earth's expansionist ambitions. With a powerful navy built in secret and armed with nuclear weapons, Saint Petersburg is preparing to launch their own offensive against Earth before the Confederation becomes too powerful.

The Confederation heavy cruiser Yura, commanded by Ichiro Sato, is part of the fleet the Confederation sends to preempt Saint Petersburg's attack. Drawn into a deadly trap, the Confederation fleet and its Marines are fighting for their lives when Kreelan warships, led by the enigmatic warrior priestess Tesh-Dar, materialize out of hyperspace.

As Tesh-Dar and her warriors wreak havoc on the two human fleets and Saint Petersburg itself, Ichiro, Roland Mills, and a Confederation spy known as SCARLET are faced with desperate choices from which they learn the true meaning of sacrifice.

Still enjoying this series. February 21, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought the kindle omnibus edition of In Her Name not sure if it was really something I'd enjoy. Did I ever! I have not been disappointed in any of the In Her Name stories. The omnibus stories which is actually the first three books of the series is the resolution of the Kreelan/Human conflict while the fourth book First Contact goes back to the beginning and shows how it all began. Legends of the Sword starts shortly after where First Contact ended. So not only do you see more of Tesh-Dar and her struggles and life you see many of the characters you know and love from that book again and meet a few new memorable characters. My favorite new character was Scarlet I'm hoping we see more of her in future books and what other "alterations" she may have hidden in her. Great job Michael!

This is my second book by Hicks that I have read. The first was "In Her Name: First Contact" which I loved. This second book, which follows events shortly after the first book, was just as good - actually I like it even more as it exposes so much more about the Kreelans. The character development in these books are, well, just very, very good and I find myself easily emphasizing and hating them during the story. Hicks' writing style resonates well with me and I am easily lost in the story as the words just flow into my imagination. Next in line for me is the "In Her Name Omnibus Ed". Looking forward to it, although I hate to leave some of the characters I have just gotten to know so well!

Keep writing about the Kreelans Michael Hicks - there is so much more left for us to learn about them!

The Wild Ride Continues March 18, 2010

Every time I read a book in this series, I am surprised to find that I can hold my breath much longer than I thought. I am also surprised that I continue to enjoy reading a sci-fi series. I think that's because, although it is a futuristic, inter-stellar epic, it also contains a large dose of fantasy in the form of the Kreelans.

The meaning behind the title "Legend of the Sword" was quite a surprise, but made perfect sense.

Mr. Hicks continues to make me care about the characters, both human and Kreelan. And he is not above making me cry over those who die in this ongoing conflict. Again, both human and Kreelan.

The author tipped the scales more toward sci-fi than fantasy with the introduction of Scarlet/Valentina in this installment. Nevertheless, I liked the character, although I would have liked to know more about her.

Looking forward to the next one.
