Well worth reading,
By Eclectic reader (Tucson, Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Legend of Zamiel Zimbalist (Connedim) (Connedim) (Paperback)
I love the way this book blends times and places. All different eras exist at the same time, and Connedim is like the hub of a wheel where you can get to any of the different times. It's a cool idea.
Zachary is a loner who wants to have friends but finds himself isolated by the need to find out about his long-lost uncle Zamiel. Everything points to Zamiel being the leader of the evil Scatterers, which would break Zachary's heart, yet he still tries hard to find out the truth. With a great bunch of characters, including a giant tortoise, Alexander the Great, a talking cat, and children from the past and future, this story was interesting from beginning to end.

This is the second book in the series (I understand a third is in the works). I personally cannot wait for the next one!
I am now reading the classic A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and Pam Keyes book is a worthy heir to that tradition. In the Legend of Zamiel Zimbalist as in the first book, The Rune of Zachary Zimbalist, we deal with variations of perspective on time, place, family and the complexities of what we know, what we think we know, and how we can be wrong about what we think we know. Adults and children characters alike are fallable in this exciting and riveting sequel. The writing is superb and you'll want to read it in one sitting. Definitely read The Rune of Zachary Zimbalist first!

getting better,
This review is from: The Legend of Zamiel Zimbalist (Connedim) (Connedim) (Paperback)
I loved the first book in this series, and I can't believe The Legend of Zamiel Zimbalist is even better - but it is. In this book, Zachary is trying to find out if his uncle is one of the good guys or one of the bad guys. The end of the book is completely unexpected, and is really, really good. Now I can't wait for book three.

Secrets. Accusations. Nightmares. In The Legend of Zamiel Zimbalist, book two in The Connedim series, chaos and confusion stick to twelve-year-old Zachary like a bad tattoo. Even before Zachary returns to the time-defying world of The Connedim, he knows that the Scatterers are still seeking him, to wreak their chaos in history. Zachary Zimbalist has been given a mysterious portal, supposedly made by his Uncle Zamiel. But Zamiel died years ago in a car accident that left Zachary's dad terribly injured. And when Zachary tries to find out more about Zamiel, even his closest friends tell him not to ask questions. The Interhistorical Alliance, always known for its honesty and communication, seems riddled with secrets and lies. The most respected members of the Alliance assure Zachary they know nothing about his uncle, then tell him to mind his own business. Only his roommate is willing to listen to his fears. But it doesn't take Zachary long to find out that everyone knows about Zamiel, including the Mexican ghost who is his most trusted Mentor. Even more shocking is the realization that his uncle may still be alive. As Zachary becomes determined to find out what happened to his uncle, he's drawn closer and closer to Sammy, the dangerous leader of the Scatterers. Even the bravest members of the Alliance are afraid to confront Sammy, but when Zachary finds undeniable connections between Sammy and Zamiel, he realizes that he soon may have no choice. The key to the truth may lie in the strange portal made by his uncle - if only Zachary can figure out how to use it. Pamela Keyes leads you on an action-filled journey of suspense, plot twists and danger, throwing in Druids and Greek war goddesses, legendary monsters and fiercely playful mandiballs. I couldn't put this book down!
