3.0 out of 5 stars OK Guide, but don't spoil the fun!
I'm against game guides altogether...I belive they are for losers who don't feel like actaually trying to figure out the game itself. That's supposed to be the fun part. And man, was this game fun. AFTER I beat it, I picked up this guide to see if I missed anything and played through a couple of times over. The fact of the matter is, all I really used the guide for...

5.0 out of 5 stars These two do it again, August 6, 1999
This review is from: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Prima Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
From the co-authors of Prima's Star Ocean: The Second Story Official Strategy Guide (an product of pure excellence) comes another FULLY COMPLETE guide to what is hands down the greatest Game Boy game ever made [to date, of course]. Every single area is mapped out in full color, all items, weapons, heart pieces, and seashells are revealed, all the new photograph opportunities are shown, and the enemy/boss strategies are right on the money. The walkthrough is very well done as well, for those who need step-by-step directions for getting through the game's dungeons (including the new secret color dungeon). The only thing I feel could have been added woould be to point out to players how to open up some of the rooms (i.e., the map in the book shows the players where to go next, but a player might not know to throw a pot at a door, or kill all of the enemies, to allow them passage to get there). But even that will not reduce the overall rating of this excellent guide. It's too bad it was not released months earlier when the game was; it probably would have done much better in sales. Add this one to your collection today (and you can't beat amazon's price!).

5.0 out of 5 stars helpful excellence, January 27, 2000
This review is from: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Prima Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
I enjoy playing with the Zelda game just as much as my children, but we were almost at a standstill until I ordered the Legend of Zelda book. We are now flying through areas we never would have found otherwise. It is a great help not only in finding trading items and secret shells, as well as different dungeons, but it has also decreased our frustration of the unknown.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Beat It!, March 20, 2000
This review is from: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Prima Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
I was stuck on a leval, when I stumbled on this Bible in its own way. It got me through the game in no time. it goes over all the levles and tells you what to look for and where. It tells locations of all seashells and hearts, how to beat bad guys, and even where to bomb. I won this game one week after I bought this book! Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Very Useful!, November 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Prima Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
This book tells you everything about links awakening. There is a pull out map of koholint island (where the game takes place), maps of all Nine dungeons and locations of all pieces of heart and secret seashells. The only disadvantage is that it tells you so much that it might not be right for some people. Before I got this book I never played Zelda, but now I play it a lot. THIS IS A VERY GOOD BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guidebook for one of the Gameboy Greats!, June 8, 2000
This review is from: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Prima Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
What can I say? This guide book is very well put together, aiding the young adventurer (i.e. you) thru his quest in beating the Wind Fish and solving the elusive mystery of Koholint Island. It is very well thought out, with complete maps for everything. Of course, it being a guide book, if you really want to beat it you ought try to do it yourself first, and consult the book only when necessary. But they have done a very fine job.

There is one stint I have against it, however. At the beginning of each section, they have suggestions for things you ought to do. This is all well and fine - but one some of these they should direct you to the page number that dealt with that specific item or whatever it is. Example: they say in one of the later sections it is good to go and get your boomerang. You have to go back and find where they talk about the boomerang (which, as I remember, in the early part of the book, not the section it should be). But this is only a minor stint.

Another good thing is they have a map, and on the back of that is where to get all the new pictures from the camera shop. The only problem with that is if you lose the map, you're basically screwed in the picture department.

Visually very nicely laid out. You can very clearly tell where you need to go. The dungeons are taken step by step, and is an excellent example in the writing of guides. I would like to see more of their work: if its anywhere near this good, then they're great overall. They should be regularly featured guide writers (they probably are). The one problem I mentioned is only minor, and does not deserve to detract an entire star.

Therefore, this guide book is 4 & ½ stars. Keep it up you guys! Actually, on second thought, a full 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book, Except..., March 5, 2002

This review is from: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Prima Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
This guide helped me a lot to beat the game. I got stuck at the second dungeon so I bought the guide. The only problem is that the walkthrough for the seventh dungeon, Eagle Tower, I got lost and couldn't really figure out what to do, so I just walked around trying different stuff. But other than that, this guide is perfect and you should get it if you own the game.
