Bob Hope is the stage name of Lesie Townes Hope, born in England in 1903. He became one of America's most famous comedians through appearances in vaudeville, Broadway, radio, Film, and television. Hope's distinctive comic style is of a brash, but slightly self deprecating wit, which specialized in topical jokes. Bob's motion picture debut in "the Big Broadcast" in 1938 featured his rendition of "Thanks for the Memory" which became his world famous theme song. His long, friendly rivalry with Bing Crosby was highlighted by their funny "road pictures" with leading lady Dorothy Lamour. the "road series" kicked off with Road to Singapore in 1940.
