First I'm writing this review on behalf of my brother who is a huge Hall and Oates fan, he explained why he just give 3 stars to this collection :When I first heard of this 3CD set of Hall and Oates LEGENDARY, I was very excited. It was high time someone should pay tribute to them.HOWEVER, I was bit disappointed when I have listened to it. The SOUND QUALITY of the songs were UNEVEN. Especially the older tracks in dics One. The live track in disc three (The Way You Do the Things You Do) seem to come out from a bootleg recording. Moreover, two songs were missing in this set, that is SHE'S GONE and MISSED OPPORTUNITY. The packaging was rather poor. The CDS were placed in an OLD style twin CD plastic box and there was no detailed booklet of the artist's history and discography, only a rectangluar piece of paper folded into three sides and briefly describing about these guys. On the whole, the songs are as always evergreen as ever, but really can do better on sound quality and packaging, and this is a really a MISSED OPPORTUNITY for not doing so.

Possession Obsession,

It's gratifying to see renewed public interest in the music of Daryl Hall and John Oates, as evidenced by their recent VH1 special and accompanying CD. As good as the other Hall & Oates collections are, this is the most comprehensive compilation available. With 50 songs clocking in at over 3 hours, this 3-CD collection might be a little too much for the casual fan. For those whose appetites were merely whetted by the single disc greatest hits, there are pleasures aplenty to be found here. The recognizable hits (Sara Smile, Kiss On My List and Out Of Touch) have stood the test of time very well. A generous number of outstanding album cuts (Tell Me What You Want, Art Of Heartbreak and Crime Pays), along with later songs (Change Of Season, Everywhere I Look), also sound great. Since you're not going to hear these less familiar songs on the radio anytime soon, this collection is a convenient way to listen to them all. I highly recommend the aptly named "Legendary Hall & Oates" CD compilation.

Good to see these guys back in circulation. As has been previously stated, three discs of Hall & Oates without any of their Atlantic material is a bit much... Collectors Choice did an excellent two-disc set covering their RCA hits; it's a bit more concise and lower priced than this. I think you can buy it direct from the company's site.

This 3 cd set has 50 songs in total, tho the sound quality could be better, I liked the wide range of songs, some I wasn't even aware that Hall & Oates had done. "Wait For Me", "Everytime You Go Away", "Did It In a Minute", "One On One", "Open All Night", "Say It Isn't So", "Going Through The Motions", "Out Of Touch", "Don't Hold Back Your Love", are some of the songs I particularly enjoyed. Nice overview of their career from 1976-1990.

This CD is good but it's not worth the money. I mean it really is just a greatest hits CD that was never released in the states. Although it does have many of the groups classic there are some stinkers also. To be truthful I have only listened to the CD once since I bought. It really did not motivate me to listen to it again. It will probably sit in the CD rack collecting dust for a long time!

Comprehensive no frills budget release,
By A Customer
This review is from: Legendary (Audio CD)
This 3CD set in the "Legendary" series is probably the best "value for money" buy for Hall & Oates fans who want to have all of the group's key RCA recordings in one place but who aren't too fussy with the sound quality or product packaging. As a no frills budget release, "Legendary" offers only the basics. The tracks aren't digitally remastered. There is only a track listing on rather cheap glossy paper but no liner notes. But whereas the other "best of" compilations cover only their biggest and most obvious hits, "Legendary" includes the smaller ones as well as notable "B" sides and album cuts. A great buy for budget conscious fans.
