Perfect for the casual fan,
By
This review is from: Legendary John Denver (3CD) (Audio CD)
As a child of parents who were huge fans of John Denver, I find myself drawn to his music both for its nostalgic value and Denver's sunny, sweet songwriting style. I am not, however, a Denver completist, or even someone who would listen to three CDs like this set back to back. I like to hear a little John Denver in the car or while cleaning on a sunny day, one CD at a time, or add a Denver CD to my CD changer and hit "shuffle". If you have a similar relationship with John Denver's music, this is the ideal collection for you.It includes all of John Denver's hits and most other songs that you might be familiar with. As well, it includes just enough of his lesser-known songs to move this beyond a collection of overplayed hits. It also spans Denver's entire career and all of the styles that he worked in, from his simple guitar/vocal songs to the more synthesized style he later adopted and his duets with other artists. If you have a passing interest in the music of John Denver but don't want to stick yourself with the same old "greatest hits" collections, this one is for you.

Far Out! From The Rocky Mountain Kid Himself!,
By Barron Laycock "Labradorman" (Temple, New Hampshire United States) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Legendary John Denver (3CD) (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful compilation featuring most of the best songs written and performed by John Denver. This is one of the first of the posthumous releases of many his best-known songs. Included are many of the monster hits that propelled him into amazing popularity and superstardom in the early 1970s. In his heyday no one was outselling his albums or out-booking John for concert appearances, and considering the incredible talents on the scene at the time, that is a pretty good indication of just how popular he was, and just how universal John Denver's appeal was. No one else sang of the wide-open possibilities and seemingly limitless possibilities for a good life awaited those who would free themselves from the bonds that confined them and just dare to soar along with him in the wild open spaces. Many of the tracks here are terrific, from "Rocky Mountain High" to "Annie's Song", from "Rhymes And Reasons" to "How Can I Leave you Again", from "Seasons Of the Heart" to "Shanghai Breezes". John, more than any of his contemporaries, actively caught the public's imagination regarding the wonders of the natural environment, and in a time when environmental concerns were splashed all over the headlines and the evening news, John's vision of popular concern for and stewardship of the natural world was immensely important. I love a number of the songs here, including "You're So Beautiful" to "I'm Sorry", to "Sunshine On My Shoulders", to "Goodbye Again", and my own personal favorite, "Farewell Andromeda". This album represents a wonderful overview of the work of John as he thrilled a whole generation with his own perspective of a meaningful life lived in the natural splendor of nature. I know you will enjoy this as well as all of his other albums. Far out!

Excellent Compilation,

This review is from: Legendary John Denver (3CD) (Audio CD)
I was looking for a CD that covered the full gambit of John Denver's music and was not dissappointed with this one. From his older titles like "Sunshine on My Shoulders" to newer titles like "Dreamland Express" this one set does an outstanding job of covering John Denver. What really surprised me was the regret and pain you can here in some of his later songs - caught in only a way John Denver can do it. You feel his pain, confusion, and triumphs. I recommend this CD to any John Denver fan.
