More About the Author

I'm nothing more than a guy that loves video games.

I managed a software store in Indianapolis when I encountered Brady's publisher. The company hired me to assist in developing their new line of video game strategy guides, which was a very limited assortment at the time. They had published on a few Electronic Arts sports titles for the Sega Genesis, Mortal Kombat, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

It was a very interesting time for our business. Strategy guides were transitioning from tiny booklets into full-size, full-color, magazine-like books. We had the opportunity to make a huge impact and try something very new and unique. I'm very thankful for the experience. It was simply an amazing opportunity.

"Virtua Racing" for the Sega Genesis was my first project as an author. It took a week to write and some of that time was spent sleeping on an office floor. It was not a book I wanted to write. Our publisher made it clear I didn't have a choice. As painful as that first project was, it shot my career down a completely unexpected path. It led to projects like Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and eventually, my favorite, Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy had always been a favorite series since it released for the NES. VII proved to be a monstrous task. We had no idea what we were getting into at the time. Final Fantasy projects now require a team of authors, but I'm proud of what we accomplished given the resources available. It was a learning experience for everyone involved.

I continued to write for several years with Conan being my final project. It has been a wonderful ride and I met some amazing people along the way. The people at BradyGames really care about the products they produce. That is not something you find with every publisher.

BradyGAMES learned from their mistake with the Tales of Symphonia guide. The Tales of Legendia guide is helpful, detailed, and makes it a point to cover as much as possible.

The guide begins with the game basics. If you're pretty new to the game, or the Tales series, the game basics will help you get on your feet and keep you from falling over. It's brutally detailed (perhaps too detailed at times). Giving you the low down from the basic controls, to the complexity of the battle system. By helping you get to know the battle system I'm not kidding. They even go as far as to show you how to get the best Grade possible!

After the exhaustive game basics, we get into the characters section. Here the guide gives you the low-down on every character. All the different Eres they use, Compound Eres and all the titles they can amount to. They do this for each and every character.

Afterwards we get to the walkthrough, which has shown the most improvement over the Tales of Symphonia guide. Let me first tell you that there actually ARE maps. They're pretty detailed maps too, and they're very easy to use. The walkthrough is divided into chapters. For each subsection in a chapter, there's a an objectives list. Not only do they tell you what you need to do, but they point out on the map where it is you're going to do it. The guide also has some good overall puzzle solutions and strategies. The boss strategies aren't so bad either, they work well at leading you to victory. It's also nice to see that when entering a new area they actually told you what enemies are there and they provided an HP statistic as well as weaknesses.

What the other three reviewers doesn't metion at all is while it was excellent, when it got to the character quests, a heap of stupid mistakes appear. Most likely the publisher rushed through the second half to finish by their deadlines. For example the picture of rabid geit on pg 133 were wrong to name a few. Some are no big deal, other are critical flaws. For example on the quest, A Flower and A Promise the authors didn't metion a short trip to get a stronger Jay's weapon and that you need to go to Ors Village for it. Chaotic zones are absent or in one map, shifted a bit to the right as if it were incorrectly layered over. You also wonder what other minor trips are missing from this guide.

If you do not have the strategy guide you miss a lot of things while playing the game. I try to purchase every strategy book for each game.
