This is a good overview of myth and legend. It is History and Literary Criticism. The actual myths are under detailed discussion here, but the texts of the works are not. It is a solid book and worthwhile to find out which myths and legends you would like to pursue further. This volume is the full work that is greatly reduced and mostly reworded in Rolleston's "The Illustrated Guide to Celtic Mythology." You can call them "companion books."
