1.0 out of 5 stars Can't judge THIS book by it's cover!!, January 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Legends Collection: Eric Clapton Collection (Audio CD)
Beware buyers!! This collection may have EC's picture on the cover but he no play the music!! Sounds like Chuck Berry meets Paul Revere and the Raiders meets every 60's garage band you ever heard. It is all ...disguised blues tunes played by who knows? There are no liner notes with this package, only EC's picture and song titles. Produced in England ...) and packaged under 'Dressed To Kill' record label. ...I am a big fan of the blues but, this was a MAJOR disappointment. There are alot of good songs on this package...

Eric, me boyo, Why did you put your name to this waste of time? The pieces on this album, though purportedly a colection of your best work, sound.....shallow. Thin. Just plain long not good. Somebody made some money on this turkey. I was forced to give this a 1 star rating. That is too much for it. I really hope this one got in under your radar as I am sure such a talented musician as yourself would never have let this thing see the light of day

1 star is too high a rating for this turkey. Mr. Clapton, if you had anything to do with this, shame on you. I know this goober is going to the used CD bin quickly.

1.0 out of 5 stars This CD is a ripoff, January 20, 2003

If you want to hear vintage Clapton, do not buy this CD. Ol' Eric is hard to find on this deceptively labeled product. Mostly what you get are poorly recorded and mixed Yardbirds tunes. The drums dominate, followed by bass and vocals. Clapton is hard to hear or simply not there. There are no liner notes so the guitarist isn't even identified. Buyer beware!

2.0 out of 5 stars For Hard Core EC Fans Only, June 10, 2009
This review is from: Legends Collection: Eric Clapton Collection (Audio CD)
Actually this REALLY IS Eric Clapton playing live with various and sundry bands in his early "pre-legend" days.

Here is one UK reviewer's summary of this recording:

"Released in this two-CD package and as separate single CDs titled The Eric Clapton Collection, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, Dressed to Kill's compilation of Eric Clapton recordings bears no annotations beyond song titles, though its album cover photograph of a mature Clapton would lead the potential buyer to assume it consisted of later recordings. Instead, it contains some of the guitarist's earliest work, most of it as a member of the Yardbirds playing on albums such as Five Live Yardbirds and Sonny Boy Williamson and the Yardbirds. Five of the tracks -- "Choker," "Snake Drive," "Freight Loader," "Draggin' My Tail," and "Tribute to Elmore" -- come from an informal session probably held in June 1965 with Jimmy Page, Mick Jagger, Bill Wyman, Ian Stewart, and Chris Winters and originally appeared in 1968 on the Immediate Records LPs Blues Anytime, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (in the U.K.) and An Anthology of British Blues, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (in the U.S.). Some of the Yardbirds tracks actually come from after Clapton's tenure in the band, and they feature Jeff Beck on guitar, not Clapton. Pay no attention to the designation "live versions" affixed to some of the tracks. There are live recordings not so noted, and some of those called live are actually studio recordings. On the whole, then, this is a sloppy, deceptive collection that cannot be recommended, even though the sound quality is good and there are some impressive early Clapton performances."

1.0 out of 5 stars The Eric Clapton Collection - maybe , maybe not, makes you wonder!, November 13, 2005

I recently bought this collection of 2 CD's from a store

Used but like new for $5.99 , I thought I had a real deal till

I played both the CD's, not once but three times assuming that

would like a lot of CD's sound better "kinda grow on you" so to speak , well they did't. They sound awfull. Eric Claption has always been one of my favorite Rock / Blues singers but I must have heard his better know songs. All the songs on both these CD's sound like they were recorded on a "Boom Box" you can hardly hear the vocals for the band. Makes you wonder what is going on with the people that put this CD collection out. They all sound very low quality. I do not recommend you buying this CD. Put your money into one of his better Cd's like the "Rainbow

Concert" I have never rated a CD on Amazon before, but felt this

one was so bad, that I needed to do something. Thanks
