I collected this story when it came out in magazine form. It was excellent then and I'm glad dc released it in a graphic novel. Todays comics feature far too many universe shattering events and they just don't stand out any more (consider that Death of Superman was all over the news but the death of Batman was never mentioned.)
thanks for reading this.

Legends was DC's second major crossover book and is certainly better than many of the ones that followed. After the confusing cosmic mish-mash of Crisis on Infinite Earths this story is much more down to Earth, focusing on a villain's plan to discredit Earth's superheroes.

It's jam-packed with characters and introduces quite a few more but it never feels rushed or crowded. Byrne's art and Wein & Ostrander's story-telling are clear and even people unfamiliar with the cast can follow along.

As a story it's fairly two-dimensional. The messages are that hatred is bad, heroes are good and children are the future. But it's well-told and entertaining.

The introduction deserves special praise; it really goes into the background of how the series was created.

This collection is quite old. The story is from the late 80s and the trade paperback from the early 90s so some readers will find the paper and printing quality is below what they are used to but by and large it is a decent read and worth the time.

While not the best comic of all time, by any means, it does a very nice job of setting up many DC books of the late eighties. If you are a fan of DC comics, pick this one up. It stars Superman, Batman,Flash, and a whole lot of other heros, facing a enemy they can not pound into the ground (Not that there is not tons of action along the way) and has the introduciton of Wonder Woman to the modern world.
