Hunters & Heroes,
By penny2400 (Arkansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Legends: Hunters and Heroes (The Hunters, Book 7) (Paperback)
This book contains 3 novellas that were originally published as e-books. I've been wanting to read the novellas because I really enjoy the Hunters series, but I don't like reading books from my computer. I like holding a book in my hands! So I was delighted when I saw the novellas were being release in print form.
I enjoyed all three stories, but I'll start with my favorite. Malachi: It gives the history on Malachi from before he was changed until he joined the Hunters. I loved finding out more about him. I can't wait for his new book. The Huntress: It tells about how the Hunters began. It is a good story. I would like to see a longer book about Matthew & Rachel. Hunter's Pride: It is very loosely related to the Hunter series. It only mentions the Hunters & Council a couple of times. It's a good story especially considering the short format.

Expected better,

I've been a fan of Ms. Walker's since her e-books first started selling on Ellora's Cave. I have faithfully followed the Hunter series and was looking forward to some new stories. However, after reading just a few pages of the first novella in this anthology (The Huntress), I knew the quality of the writing wasn't at all the same. For one, whoever edited the writing did a bad job; numerous times I did a double to try to figure out just what was trying to be written. Secondly, the stories seemed very rushed, like they'd been very abbreviated in order to fit a word count requirement. Third, the only story that seemed to be related to the actual Hunter series was that of Malachi. The other 2 stories (The Huntress and Hunter's Pride) were completely random stories of the supernatural creatures originally contrived in the Hunter series.
All in all, I'm very disappointed in these stories and will be wary of future Hunter series stories.

This is a well written, fast paced book that definitely is not for the shy or faint of heart. You'll need a cold drink (or maybe a cold shower!) while enjoying this - it will make you want to read the entire series!!
