Interesting read, handy, but a bit limited,

This review is from: Legends and Lairs: Elemental Lore (Paperback)
This is a very good book. A bit outdated now, having 3.0 design to it, but still interesting. This book is basically a MM book based entirely around elemental creatures. It only has monsters though, roughly 25 of them, although some have various 'sizes' or 'types'. Overall there is about 45 new fully detailed monsters. There is also 4 new PrC's, one for each element.
All of the monsters are quite interesting, varying from very simple low CR creatures, to very powerful CR creatures, like the Primal Spirits. I am currently desiging a campaign world based heavily around the elements, and this book became very handy. Outside of a game that is not elementally focused, it may be much less usefull. If your looking for a Monster Manual type of book with all sorts of creatures, this is not the book, but if you are looking for a monster manual set specifically for elementals, then there are none better. I give it 4 stars, as it is excellently written, and I made great use out of the project. I had to convert a lot to 3.5 however. For the average buyer, I would give it a 3. It is a great book you will find use out of, but it can be a bit limiting. |
