I purchased this book to introduce a unit on map skills with my homeschooled daughter. She finds the book somewhat enjoyable, and the characters a little silly. I am slightly disappointed, after all the hype this book received from Veritas Press, to find that the text is very short, with only the barest introduction to maps and cartography given. I think this book is appropriate reading for a K-1st grader, but I doubt that the topic would hold their interest.
I also purchased the accompanying workbook. Together, they make a small chunk of our 2-week geography introduction. All in all, I wish I would have borrowed them from the library instead.

My children really enjoyed this book. The illustrations are fabulous.
I will warn, though, that the accompanying workbook is a must if you want your children to really learn much about geography. The workbook is excellent.

This book is an excellent introduction to map terms, laid out as a witty little story. For example Mr. Longitude is tall and thin and Mr. Latitude is short and wide. It is up to the teacher or parent to actually show these things on a real map. This is merely a clever story that will help children to remember the terms in a fun way. It also talks about the reason for maps in the first place and types of maps etc. The copy I received was in new condition; however, it doesn't seem to be a very high quality binding. Works fine, I'll just have to supervise my little ones with it.
