This book is a must read for all guitar players.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Legends of Rock Guitar (Paperback)
This book to a guitar player is essential to an understanding of just where all that virtuosity came from to begin with. In the cases where I've studied a guitarists career extensively, there was still new information, and in cases where my knowledge was sketchy, I was gratified to be able to learn, and learn, and keep on learning. The two authors have presented us with a document that will be invaluable to players and fans alike, and if there's any way to thank them personally, I'd welcome it. One litmus test that I can point to in the book, is that they've not forgotten the contributions of those players who are no longer selling records, and in some cases never sold a pile to begin with. The whole thing shows conscientious research and I compliment the graphic layout as well. Great job!

I don't even play guitar but I thoroughly enjoyed this informative and entertaining book. Primary quibble: where's Eddie Hazel?

This review is from: Legends of Rock Guitar (Paperback)
This is the most comprehensive and insightful book on the history of rock guitarists I have ever come across. Extensive information about each player's music collaborations and individual guitar techniques will enlighten even the most ardent guitar fans. Every true guitar fanatic should have this book by their bedside.

This book is really amazing--it has EVERY great guitarist in there. From Beck and Page to Van Halen and Dimebag...and hundreds more. This is the great history of rock guitar that we've all been waiting for. I'm going to keep this one by my bed, so I can read it little by little for months.

Legends is a fine reference that is packed with information about guitarists from every area of rock. The book will be especially helpful to those looking for information on the major guitar players and also for those looking to find unknown guitarists that are worth a listen.

Anyone looking for a comprehensive survey of guitarists who've put their imprint on rock and roll should own this book. The obvious candidates are covered here (Page, Hendrix, Beck), but the author gives us many others to consider, and his treatment of early rock and roll was a great primer that opened my ears to the likes of Gene Vincent and Scotty Moore. I use this book as a companion to my online music service (Rhapsody) when I'm looking to go deeper with an artist and hear new material that I may have missed, or just isn't played on the radio (deep cuts). Highly recommended!

I bought this book for my grandson who recently started playing the guitar like his father and grandfather. It is interesing to all three generations, for browsing and reading it beginning to end. MY husband has played the guitar for fifty years and was very pleased with the book.

Excellent source,
This review is from: Legends of Rock Guitar (Paperback)
A great and honest overview of the most relevant electric guitarists, with lots of MUSICAL information and, the most important part, good listening recommendations. I've lost track of the many CD's I ended up buying after reading about unknown (to me) guitarists. I am looking forward to buying a second and updated revision. Brilliant.
