Editorial Reviews

Legends of Wimbledon: Pete Sampras is a fascinating insight into the Wimbledon career of arguably the greatest Men¹s Champion of all-time.

This documentary follows the journey of the seven times winner from his inauspicious debut in 1989 to his record breaking victory in 2000 and his last match at The Championships in 2002.

Sampras won his first Wimbledon title in 1993 defeating Jim Courier in an all American final. There would only be one other champion in the next seven years. Challengers came and went as Sampras overcame every obstacle in front of him including the untimely death of his close friend and coach Tim Gullikson.

His Wimbledon career culminated in 2000 with his seventh singles title and thirteenth Grand Slam title when he overtook the record set by Roy Emerson thirty years previously.

The program features contributions from many of Sampras¹s greatest rivals who themselves were great Wimbledon champions including Boris Becker, Andre Agassi and Goran Ivansevic. The current champion Roger Federer and the 1996 champion Richard Krajicek recall their respective victories over Sampras with further contributions from Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Martina Hingis, Jim Courier, Tim Henman and Tom Gullikson, brother of Sampras¹s coach Tim.

Legends of Wimbledon: Pete Sampras is an enthralling insight into the career of a player regarded by many as the greatest champion of them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars how soon we forget..., February 21, 2007

This review is from: Legends of Wimbledon - Pete Sampras (DVD)
While Roger Federer may indeed be the best player ever to hold a racket -- and he may break all of Pete Sampras' records -- watching this DVD reminded me of just how great Sampras was. At his best, Sampras was every bit as sublime as Federer; it's just too bad Federer had to come along so soon after Sampras retired.

This DVD is a fitting tribute to Sampras, featuring extensive match footage and interviews with the players who knew him best: Agassi, Courier, Becker, Ivanicevic, Krajicec, Henman -- even Federer pauses to pay tribute to his former idol and predecessor. And just for the record, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, and Martina Hingis put in their two cents as well.

Special features include match statistics and condensed versions of Sampras' first Wimbledon victory over Jim Courier and his last over Patrick Rafter.

Could Sampras have beaten Federer? When he was on, Sampras could beat anyone, and I don't think Federer would dispute this. Meanwhile, champion that he is, Sampras has said repeatedly that he expects Federer to break all of his records, Wimbledon and otherwise.

This review is from: Legends of Wimbledon - Pete Sampras (DVD)
I love Pete Sampras since he retired, tennis is not the same except maybe a little bit RN. The DVD is wonderful and I was pleased with the outcome.

Pete was always I gentleman, sportsman and never will forget when he said "I let the racket do the talking"

5.0 out of 5 stars Summaru of a Champion's Silver Lining, November 26, 2007
This review is from: Legends of Wimbledon - Pete Sampras (DVD)
Pete Sampras is one the best players on grass. This will guide you how he achived success gradually by winning 7 titles. Most attactive features of this documentary is theinvolvement of Pete and his opponents he played in finals. Most exciting moments in all 7 finals are highlighted. The end of champions era is also presented extremely nicely. This is a must for all Pete Sampras fans as it goes through his Wimbledon career in just one hour.
