The most important ideas to guide our interpretation of the Bible are those of compassion and love.,
By
This review is from: Legislating Immorality: The Homosexual Movement Comes Out of the Closet (Paperback)
With regards to faith, religion, and the Bible, it is interesting to see how the church can be a safe and loving place for all individuals (including homosexuals). On the other hand, it is interesting to know the reasons that led people to believe that homosexuality is not only a problem, but a sin and see what influences foster these beliefs. There is a clear correlation between these beliefs and the church (of any denomination) being an unsafe and inhospitable place (not only for homosexuals).
I think that when reading the Bible (which I did twice when I was younger and before deciding that I am an atheist), the most important ideas to guide our interpretation of the Bible are those of compassion and love. This book (not meaning to do so) put into words what I already knew intuitively, that it would be wrong to take the literal meaning of the Bible without giving thought to the context of its authors and original culture (Middle Eastern, patriarchal, over 2000 years ago, etc.). It is interesting to know that the word abomination in Leviticus 20:13 means a ritual wrong and not innately immoral. That makes much more sense when considering the use of that word with regards to eating pork, rabbit, or shrimp. Eating these meats would have meant a ritual wrong, but it does not mean that eating pork is innately immoral. If sex is understood as an act (or ritual) that has the ultimate goal of procreation (and not pleasure) in order to make the Judaic nation grow, it is understandable that a man lying with another man is considered a ritual wrong (just like eating pork). However, that is a thousand lights years away from understanding that act as innately immoral. Through science, we now know that genes, hormones, and birth order play a determining role in someone's sexual orientation. The epigenetic theory has proven that sexual orientation is a result of the complex interactions of nature (our biological make-up) and nurture (our environment) and that free will has very little to do with it. Under the light shed by this realization, it is clearly immoral to discriminate against homosexuals. It is even a greater moral transgression to invoke faith and the Bible as grounds to characterize homosexuality as a "demon lifestyle" (Anita Bryant) and assert that homosexuals will destroy the moral fabric of our nation. The selective reading of the Bible is so clearly biased, that it baffles the mind. The Bible says that Christ instruct us to give our material possessions to the poor. However, Christian conservatives like Pat Robertson had an income of $459, 000,000 in one year, but did not give it all to the poor like what the Bible says. This is a clear case of selective reading of the Bible, and ultimately, should teach us that no matter what a book says (or people claiming to know the true meaning of it), we should educate ourselves and treat others with compassion and love.

Not afraid to speak the truth!,
By
This review is from: Legislating Immorality: The Homosexual Movement Comes Out of the Closet (Paperback)
In this day and age where people would rather get along than speak the truth, it is good to see an honest treatment of what is fast becoming a non-controversial topic. What was unthinkable 30 years ago is now common place, and the question that must be asked is how did we get here, and where are we going.
Grant and Horne, trace the origins, and the agenda of the Homosexual movement. They show in a very clear way what this agenda means, and what the consequences of a continued acceptance of this agenda means, not only for our nation but for the Church of Jesus Christ. This book is not a feel good book, because the issues it deals with are so critical, but the authors not only point out the problem, they also spell out Biblical Solutions. For a long time the Church has either unsympathetically dealt with this issue or ignored it. The Church must not compromise truth, but she must also deal with people who are bound up by sin. To those who think we are fighting a losing battle, this book provides the one thing that is so needed in the Church today... Hope!!!

I've read this book last summer and before reading it I've never thought homosexuality is an issue to be discussed by everyone. Now, I do think that it is something we all have to understand properly. And properly means as the Lord sees it. That is what this book helped me to do. I want to translate it into bulgarian but how can I get in touch with the authors?
