Book Description

0761902732 978-0761902737 July 2, 1997
This volume faces the challenge of the 21st century in this masterly analysis of the legitimate options open to public administration in a democratic society. Against a background of globalization of markets, increased prejudice, and racial and ethnic violence, the author demonstrates the centrality of administrative legitimacy to a 21st century that is an improvement over the 20th.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a textbook, a pathway to new thinking!, May 12, 2000
By
Josef Reum (Washington DC) - See all my reviews
McSwite, (a new kind of author/partnership) sheds light on a sub-rosa conversation taking place in the halls of academe. The author/s raise difficult questions and invite readers to reconsider how and why we have come to believe the things we do about the US form of government. McSwite also provides a new and important analysis of why the insititutions of government seem to have disconnected from the people, or the people have disconnected from the government. Drawing on the fields of philosophy, sociology, psychology, and history the authors engage the reader in critical thinking and new understandings of the way we 'know' about what we 'know' about the relationships between and among individuals, communities, and the state. An enjoyable read sure to inspire debate... in your own mind, and with the people you will surely share the book.
