Editorial Review

The Toa, saviors in the battle against the Bohrok on the island of Mata Nui, are exposed to the strange energies of protodermis and are transformed into the mighty Toa Nuva, with new powers, new armor, and new tools. Onua Nuva lives in the rocky tunnels deep beneath the surface of Mata Nui. He has two chainsaw-like appendages, which he uses to tunnel through the mountains. He can also attach these, like Rollerblades, to his feet. Turn the wheel on his back to make his powerful arms move. These super versions of the original Toa come in the same capsule-like containers with artistically crafted lids that can also serve as display stands. --M. Sullivan

5.0 out of 5 stars My son is a Bionicle Freak!, July 4, 2003

There's another reviewer in here that gave the Bionicles a bad rating and went on to berate the toys as hard to assemble and fall apart easily. Well I've got a "just turned" 5 year old who has become a raging Bionicle addict. He got a simple Bionicle promo toy from Mcdonalds awhile back and has been hooked ever since. As of his birthday, he now has 7 bionicles. Even though the recommended age group on the containers says 7+, my son has no problem at all assembling and disassembling his bionlces. The instructions are very clear. His favorite thing to do is take 3 of the Bionicles apart and build them together into one big Bionicle.
So anyway, I'm not saying my son alone is some kind of Technical genius, I'm really saying go ahead and get your child just one of the bionlces if they are asking for them. If they can put it together themselves and enjoy it, then you can let them get the rest. But beware! Lego is very smart about making money off these things and like my son, your kid will want them all! I'm currently working out a chores for money deal with him so he can buy them himself. (Even the tooth fairy left him one under his pillow once.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Onua Nuva, September 7, 2002

I think that Onua Nuva is a great edition to the Bionicle series! This Toa Nuva is not very complex to build, but the directions can be educational, as they teach to follow instructions. Onua has two quake breakers that can even be turned into hi-speed "treads" that attatch to his feet! (They don't actually move, though.) He is very durable and won't break unless you purposefully break pieces. Turning a gear on his back will make him thrash his quake breakers. The only negative things are: when you remove his armor his head comes with it, the mask makes him look like he is always looking slightly upwards, and his quake breakers look more like chainsaws. The only other problem is that some people might not like his hunched design. But if you ignore those small drawbacks, you will agree with the perfect score I gave Onua Nuva. This Bionicle is worth every penny, and I strongly suggest you buy it right away!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nuvas Rock, November 21, 2002

This review is from: Lego Bionicle Toa Super Nuva Onua (BLACK) #8566 (Toy)
Onua Nuva was the first of the Nuva series that I purchased, and I must say the Nuvas are a lot cooler than their predecessors.

As with all of the bionicles, they can be a little daunting for children under 7 to put together. For the joints around the arms and legs, where they snap together, it takes a little muscle. The resulting figure, however, is very durable.

Unfortunately, the picture above shows the bionicle put together wrong (or at least different from the instructions). The wide part of the legs goes at the bottom, near the feet, like in the picture on the can. But, that's also the beauty of legos. The possibilities for combining them in different variations are virtually endless.
