Most Helpful Customer Reviews

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Customer on July 7, 2013
I have been a huge Lego fan since before I started kindergarten, and still have some of the pieces from those first sets I got as a child. I have been excited since they released these new sets, and have purchased all 5 released so far. I rated this set 5 out of 5 stars because even on its own, it is fun to build and set up, and it comes with four minifigs and a horse. I can only assume that someone interested in this set would be interested in others in the same theme, so those are listed below. Together they all rate 5 stars:

70400 - Forest Ambush - ***** +/- $ 14
70401 - Gold Getaway - ***** +/- $27
70403 - Dragon Mountain - ***** +/- $50
70404 - King's Castle - ***** - +/- $125

The Gatehouse Raid may be the smallest castle set in the new Lego Castles line, but it's a really neat set. It's essentially a small gatehouse with a tiny prison cell. In this set you get four minifigures: two Lion Knights and two Wolf Knights, one of which comes with an armored warhorse. The Wolf Knights also have a siege engine that really launches projectiles.

Complexity: There are 248 pieces in this set, so it didn't take much time to assemble. It took just over 30 minutes to get everything put together.

Playability: This is a very fun little set. I bought it mostly for display, but between the opposing minifigures, opening gates, working catapults and just the fun of building it, kids will get a lot of mileage out of this set. It's ideal for imaginative play.

Even though this set is nearly identical to the LEGO Castle Escape from Dragon's Prison 7187 set from a couple of years ago, I still couldn't say no to it. For the price (between 20-30 bucks), this is a terrific addition to the Lego Castles line. It makes a great gift as well.

This was ordered as a gift for my grandson, who is a Lego enthusiast. He really enjoyed putting it together.
