1.0 out of 5 stars REALLY not up to LEGO-par!, November 23, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Lego Indiana Jones 2 (Video Game)
(this is a revised review - i was generous with the original edition, but then i really racked-up some game-experience, and the foul taste in my mouth got worse and worse the more i played and progressed - or FAILED to progress, as i've found the game to be UN-WINNABLE. too bad there's no way to return it for a refund, as there are plenty of other games out there that would be money much better spent...)
well folks, i'm sorry to say that they REALLY dropped the ball on this one - the major deviation from the Lego game-engine has done a LOT of damage to this game; the characters are mildly un-responsive (prepare to do a lot of falling down due to mis-timed jumps), the vehicles are VERY difficult to control (compared to the Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, and Lego Indiana Jones 1), and the "sharpened-up" graphics -while making all the characters and objects look VERY much like little bits of semi-gloss plastic- rob the game of much of the richness and charm of it's predecessors. additionally, they've really mangled the little 'between-missions' area by adding mini-adventures that must be completed to unlock the story missions.
is the game worth playing? absolutely NOT! this is FAR BELOW what we've come to expect from the Lego franchise! not only is gameplay sub-par, the level entitled "River Chase" (i think it's #9 of the 12 total for this game) has a terminal-bug in story-mode, meaning that it cannot be completed, rendering the rest of the levels completely unreachable: the 2nd-character AI refuses to change to the appropriate character to keep up with you, so you can't complete the level to unlock the freeplay-mode or subsequent levels. and, to add insult to injury, the 2nd-character AI really seems to enjoy standing between you and your targets.
i recommend this game only as a method of getting yourself really REALLY angry. i could easily get a part on the 'bad-game' GameFly commercial after experiencing this PSP title. Lego Harry Potter BETTER BE "old-engine" if they chose to release this piece of excrement in order to just get something new out there, because this SUCKS!
in case you haven't picked up on my not-too-subtle hints, i'm an EXTREMELY dis-satisfied customer! i confess myself GREATLY disappointed!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bait and Switch, November 26, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lego Indiana Jones 2 (Video Game)
I feel cheated by this latest addition of Lego game. Indiana Jones 2 is not at all like it's predecessor on the PSP. The beautiful eye-popping backgrounds are missing, and in their place are lackluster ones with minimal appeal. Funny video cutting-scenes have devolved to unappealing static images with plain text to fill in the story. Other than severe visual downgrade, character animation suffer from stiffness and repetition. The game mechanics is reduced further with unresponsive control to add frustration on top of disappointment. Lastly the challenging puzzle element that made the previous title fun is absolutely nonexistent. The whole of game play is down to getting from point A to point B by solving embarrassingly easy puzzles. Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues to a failure on the PSP. Unlike the preceding Lego titles ported from PS2, this is a cheep adaptation of the DS version to conclude my review.

= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Lego Indiana Jones 2 (Video Game)
As others have noted, this is a poorly conceived and buggy game that is not close to the same standard as previous Lego releases, with a very different and inferior look and feel. It is more like a cross between Indy and Sonic, where you barrel through fairly linear platform-based levels scooping up patterns of points laid out on the ground for you. And get used to frustration trying to get through it. The controls are so bad that it seems like your success or failure for a given move is purely random. Some of the mini-challenges that rely on precision jumping are very nearly impossible. I don't mind games that are challenging, but this is not challenging, just annoying. Not recommended.
