Some previous reviews say that Mac LEGO Indiana Jones does not work with USB controllers. So before buying the game, I contacted the Mac-version authors at [...] and they said they support the Logitech Precision Pad, Logitech Rumblepad 2, and Madcatz Game Pad Pro. I have had no problems using my Logitech Rumblepad 2 with Mac LEGO Indiana Jones. I think that using a controller makes the game much more fun than just using a keyboard. A controller also saves a LOT of keyboard wear and tear.
Pros: Overall this is an awesome game. I like it a bit better than the LEGO Star Wars games. I love the new ability to pick up your enemy's weapons and pick up stuff that is lying around (and you can use them!). I like it that you can set certain things down on a green LEGO pad and then use them to activate other things. I love how if Indy stands on a orange & brown pad, pressing Special Ability makes Indy use his whip to swing across or pull down something (like a bridge). I also like how you can hop onto vines and swing across and hop off onto a different platform. Cons: I think that the Barnett College hub is a pretty confusing. I've played it several times and I still can't find the mailroom. Also, the new capability to save freeplay in mid-scene is good but could be better (restarting the saved freeplay always makes you restart the scene). Overall I highly recommend this game. This game is similar to LEGO Star Wars but is different enough to make the purchase worthwhile for those who already own LEGO Star Wars. People who don't own LEGO Star Wars could start directly with LEGO Indiana Jones, but it might be easier to start out on the more-basic LEGO Star Wars.

I recently rediscovered my love of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and brought my son along with me. He's 4 so his limited viewing is heavily censored (mostly he likes to watch Indy run from the boulder), but he loves the Lego Indiana Jones minifig I bought for him; buying Lego Indiana Jones for Mac was the natural next step. (We don't own a game console.)
I had purchased a Logitech Dual Action Game Pad USB for him to use with Lego Star Wars; as it turns out, he prefers to use the keyboard, so I use the gamepad. Setting up the keyboard controls for him was more of a hassle than it is with Lego Star Wars, but all I had to do was press one button and the game detected and set up the gamepad via a preloaded profile. It was amazing. Today was the first day we played it and he got the hang of it very quickly. (Yes, it's rated 10+ but I don't see why; it's Lego, after all.) There was some frustration early on, but I think the game will provide some opportunities for me to teach him to persist, and to try different solutions to problems. We are running the game on Mom's 2006 iMac and I have no complaints about the performance. The only problem is the permissions issue described by another reviewer of Lego Star Wars: We can't run the game from my son's parentally-controlled account using Simple Finder, so we run it from Mom's account. It's not worth working around.
