When the plastic, Day-Glo cockpit and green plastic visual pods are considered, the fact that the completed project can be battery powered is beside the point. The kit comes with four robot astronauts; blue, moon-rover wheels; and a pair of neon blue insect wings with which to build a flying bug motorcycle. This isn't a click- together-and-play set. Part of the fun of LEGO sets are starting a collection of one type of LEGO, and adding on to make a whole community. The insectoids set is a great example of what I mean by this. According to LEGO, the insectoids are aliens that try to invade earth. Some insectoid sets have flashing lights and sounds and other fun features. This set, the Arachnoid Star Base, doesn't disappoint. It's much bigger and contains much more than the picture shown by amazon.com. It's a whole base-type thing with a control room and a big ship and other things to play with. The only thing that makes this toy fall short of 5 stars for fun rating is because, unfortunately, your wallet won't have too much fun paying for this toy. It's very durable, but if built wrong, it will easily fall apart. This toy really teaches kids how to follow rather difficult instructions, and their work will pay off! Before you go out and buy this set, though, you may want to buy a smaller insectiod set to make sure that the Insectoids unit is your cup of tea.

I got this toy for my 9 year old grandson because he loves lego projects
and this one was quite a challenge for him. But he was thrilled when he got it put together and everything worked. I recommend this toy highly for
creative children who enjoy putting things together.
