Product Description

Amazon.com Review

With all the blame that video games get for contributing to society's ills, it's comforting to know that parents have a paragon of good citizenship lessons in LEGO Island 2: The Brickster's Revenge. This adventure game, which is aimed squarely at the younger set, bolsters reading and problem-solving skills while teaching the benefits of being involved with and rebuilding a community.

The malcontent Brickster has escaped the confines of the last game (players needn't have played the first installment to play this one), and has taken this island town apart brick by brick. To add to the confusion, he's unleashed an assortment of crazy--though mostly harmless--robots to get in the player's way. The game's protagonist is a pizza delivery boy named Pepper, and for some reason it's his job to find the scattered pages necessary to rebuild the town's features. He finds these pages by interacting with the townsfolk and following their cues on which tasks to perform and in what order. The diversionary tasks are made up of quick, fun minigames--including an early takeoff on Whack-a-Mole.

It's tough to compete with the more action-oriented games for this platform, but LEGO Island 2 does a good job. One problem we found is that the game is just too easy for older kids, while the amount of dialogue one must read from the game's various characters might intimidate younger kids. Of course, parents can share the game with their kids and help them through the tough parts. --Porter B. Hall

Pros:

  • A wholesome, nonviolent game for younger kids
  • Indirectly teaches valuable skills and good citizenship
Cons:
  • Too easy for experienced adventure game players
  • Restrictive order in which tasks must be completed

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though you are not referring to the GameBoy Advance version, but rather the PC one.

I Purchased the game for my son (Age 6) and he really enjoys it. I had a chance to sneak it off him and have a blast myself, and though it was really good, some very funny dialogue and a very kid friendly atmosphere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top game, great fun for all ages, October 27, 2001

I think this game was money well spent. I got it for my niece, but ended up playing it myself from start to finish. This game has plenty of depth for kids of all ages. Yes it can be completed by young kids if they put the effort in and are skillful, but it is a challenge to much older kids as well, trust me, I know!!

The sub games are like mini-games in themselves with great graphics and playability. Yes the text dialog can be boring to those "bigger" kids, but you can skip that easily. This game has many dimensions and little touches to it that you only find while playing, in my opinion it is truely a class product. And I've been an avid gamer for years now. It really surprised me. If your kids like lego, get it, they will have a great adventure that will keep them amused for hours to come.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good citizenship, bland graphics, good for kids., December 24, 2001
This review is from: Lego Island II (Video Game)
I was excited about this game, because I thought this game would allow you to build Lego models, cars and buildings, I could not be more wrong! This is a role-playing game, where you are Pepper, a Lego kid on Lego Island. Basically the point of the game is to walk around the island talking to the Lego people who send you on tasks and give you various things for your work. Such things as items, Lego pieces and trading cards, which hold no importance, its just a picture of a Lego character. Also, you can discover mini games, like a Lego skate park, Joust and a few classic arcade games that are fun. For the older more cynical gamers, avoid this game, but if you are a parent that wants a game that inadvertently teaches your child about good citizenship and being kind to others, pick this up. The graphics are not the best, but they are good considering that this is a game with Legos.
