I bought this game for my pre-teen niece, who tells me that she loves playing it, it's really fun, and that I'm "the best aunt ever".I was surprised to see so many folks purchasing this for younger kids... probably because of the Lego theme. I was pleased that even a 12 year old didn't find this "too babyish". I was looking for something wholesome, yet entertaining, and I think I really hit the mark with this one. Her mother assures me that the value for the game is tremendous, considering how many hours my niece has spent playing it. Personally, I thought the game screen looks a little cluttered, with lego singers, scrolling lyrics at the top of the screen, video frets, some kind of progress bar across the top, a score tally, and many other flashing winking things besides. I couldn't tell where to look first. No matter! My niece seemed to grasp this just fine, quickly becoming really good at it. If you already own a Nintendo DS system, do yourself a favor and pick up this affordably priced, entertaining game.

My 5 year old son got this same for Christmas and he loves it. I like that the music is appropriate and songs we all know and that it is a nice break from the shoot 'em up games that most boys want.

A fun little game,

So the basics of this game....there are 4 members of your rock band. As they are playing a song, you have to switch between them when prompted and use 4 buttons on your DS to play "notes" as they appear on the screen. The more accurate you are, the more $ you get so you can purchase upgrades for your band. I LOVE the music in this game!!! I'm glad that the makers decided to use the ACTUAL songs instead of using cheesy imitations of them. We love Queen's WE WILL ROCK YOU and David Bowie's LET'S DANCE. My only issue with this game is....you can't really take your eyes off of the bottom screen (if you do, you will miss notes) so you miss watching your band perform on the top screen. As someone else said, there are a few songs that I think my 5-8 year old don't need to hear.....I prefer them to listen to more positive music. But most of the songs are okay and some places in the game allow you to choose which songs you want on your playlist.

Son's Favorite DSi Game So Far,

This has become one of my son's favorite games. I haven't played it more than once, so I'm not writing this review from experience. But I've witnessed enough aunts and uncles playing it to know that adults and kids will enjoy this alike. The music is varied (from different eras), which I see as a positive. There are a few songs I don't let him play, because of language that isn't kid friendly. I guess that is relative, but it does seem rather short-sighted on the software designer's part to include songs that may be questionable for some, where there is SO much material out there to pull from. I look forward to (and if this exists already, I am just unaware of it) to the day when you can simply pick and pay for songs of your choice. Seems like that is the best way to make both kids and parents happy and could be pretty lucrative for software owners and artists. All in all, it's well worth the price and will make almost any kid happy.

The LEGO characters are cute and the music is good. However, I was disappointed with the interface. It is not what you would expect from Rockband. You only use the left, up , X and A controls to hit the notes as promted. Even though the DS has a microphone, it is only used in this game to activate the bonus powerup, and not for singing.I think this game would be better on the PS3 or Wii where you can use the real Rockband instruments. On the DS, I would recommend the Guitar Hero series, which comes with the plug-in guitar controller.

If there was ever a format a first time rock band player the DS is it. I played this game for hours on end playing "We Will Rock You" and "So What" And doing quite well(It should be noted I played the super easy setting to get my feet wet). The game's simple face button interface is great and the songs are the actual songs(Pink's "So What" Is censored and some songs are shortened to hold the young'uns attention span) A rarity for a DS game. All in all for those of us who don't want to shell out the cash for a Rock Band set can get this and have a blast. ROCK ON!!!!

This games certainly "rocks" with my two sons, 6 & 9. I am significantly older and still enjoyed learning and playing the game. It's not hard, but fun. Creating your own band members with their own wardrobe was also a good time. Lots of classic rock songs and newer ones too, made it addictive. Not to mention, that you will be humming all the songs that you played. My generation is more "Queen" and "Ghostbusters" buy I learned Pink's "Rock Star" too. And because it is a LEGO product, it has a delightful sense of humor that is ageless. NO BAD LYRICS either. It is appropriate and enjoyable for any one who plays. Rock on!

My 2 boys love this game. It is a little complicated but after some practice they seem to do better than Mom and Dad. :)
