This review is from: Lego Star Wars - Pit Droid Technic - 217 Pieces (Toy)
This was the last Droid set that I bought from the series, I thought that the model would be less exciting that the other two 'big brothers'. How wrong could I be? This model is just as exciting as the others are.The set builds a pit Droid that can mend your pod racer in a hurry when you smash it up. (Ok, so the Lego pod racer is a little smaller than the Droid! ) The set consists of basic 'Lego Technic' parts, which are used in amazing ways to transform them into a very technical working mechanism. There are one or two parts that are not generic, but find me a set that doesn't these days! The model took me a little over an hour to build, mainly spent refining the mechanism to ensure it stands up when you punch its nose, (Just like in the movie!) As with the other Droids in this series the energy used to 'unfold' the Droid is stored in tensioned rubber bands. These do the job well and plenty of them are supplied to refine the movement and to replace broken ones. This set builds the cutest Droid of the series (In my opinion) which means that the younger generations will have as much fun playing with this, as building it. If you are thinking of buying one for your kid(s) why waste all this time reading this? Buy it now! The age recommendation given by Lego I think is a little unfair. I'm sure that any keen 6 year-old could quite easily construct this set in the evenings after school. I'm sure Dad wouldn't mind helping them too! (Dads: Go and buy one for yourselves if you want one! ) Something I enjoyed as much as building this model was getting the mechanism to work properly, it took quite some time of tweaking the rubber bands to create the tensions required to stop it falling backward when you hit its nose. Don't despair though, it is possible! Compared to the other Droids, this one's the easiest to build but by no means the lesser of it siblings! I would definitely recommend this to the younger generation of 'Lego engineers'.

Being a 21 year old engineering student, I wasn't sure how entertained I would be after I recieved it as a gift. This is probably the most enjoyable toy I've gotten in a long time. It's highly addictive; after I finished it, I wanted to go get another set to put together. The mechanics and the way everything moves together perfectly is amazing. I have great respect for the designers of this product, and expect to be equally impressed by the other sets. I would highly recommend this toy to kids (~10+, or younger with some adult help) and adults alike.

The Droid series of Technic's are a blast to put together and to play with! I'm always amazed at how these sets are put together and how detailed and complex they look when one is finally built. The Pit Droid has plenty of moving parts and joints which enable it to be manipulated easily. It can be "squashed" down and locked in to position but by pushing the sensor disc - it pops back up in to a standing position! The directions are easy to follow, the pieces are durable and comes with extra bands (which makes sense), you can even build some accessories so he's not left standing empty-clawed! An absolute delight of a set and will provide many hours of quiet time to a budding droid technician!
