5.0 out of 5 stars X-Pod PLay-off actually a good strategy game
I've had a lot of fun with the surprisingly deep board game that LEGO offers with the x-pods. THe variations of strategy are endless, and the rules are much easier to learn than games like warhammer or the like. Building with legos is fun, but actualy having a way to pit your creations against each other is even better. The pods are fun little sets to just mess around...

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
We ordered this game for our 6 year old son, because we are big fans of the Lego creator game. We thought this set would be just as clever-- we were wrong! I couldn't understand the directions; My husband didn't understand the directions and after an hour, we finally just played with the pods and dumped the rest of the set. It seems as if they were trying to create a...

I keep one of these pods on my desk at work to noodle with when my brain gets fried in the afternoon. It helps me loosen up and actually get work done after 2pm. My favorite has to be the Wild (red) x-pod. I tend to enjoy making kawaii figures, and this x-pod has those awesome white discs for big critter eyes. The robots, although providing a lot of pieces, seem a bit limited if you keep each pod intact. Jumbling all the pod pieces together obviously opens more possibilities.

The pod can also double as a paper clip holder or pistachio bowl.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Beginner for 5-yr olds, July 6, 2005

= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

DESCRIPTION:
The x-Pods in this toy are the original four offered by LEGO with a 5th "Black" pod which has the same shaped pieces (but of a different color) as the included "Green" pod. LEGO does not sell this x-Pod product online at their site anymore, and is currently selling four new x-Pods, equally fun, but without the pre-packaged board and cards for the game (which you can now download from lego.com).

INTRODUCING TO KIDS:
If you are introducing your child to LEGOs, this is a great first LEGO set. The limited number of pieces keeps the experience from being overwhelming (what does a 4- or 5-yr-old do with 1,000 pieces?) while it forces inventive creativity. My 5-year-old has had a great time inventing boats from the Auto Pod, explaining each feature with intricate detail (this is where they sit, & this is a fan, & this is a grill); and as LEGO said in 1970s literature with their toys, I know it's a boat because my 5-yr-old says it's a boat. The x-pod is also a good first set because it is self-contained and easily portable. Although the pieces are also easy to lose, you can keep track of them by using the inventory sheet in the back of the game booklet contained in this product, to see if you need to look for a missing piece.

Most pods have unique pieces that allow movement (tipping, rotating, racheting, etc.), which tend to be a bit more difficult for young children to assemble, but which add to the invention possibilities more than the regular pieces. LEGO is right on the button for age-appropriateness (If it says 5+, don't give it to your 3-yr old).

*TIP*:
If you have any trouble disassembling, you should buy the <$2 brick splitter from lego.com; it works wonders.

Kids will have a great time building from instructions and creating their own x-pods. The rules are strategy oriented and are tooo complicated to be fun for most parents to play with their kids. This is definitely a "boy" game and they LOVE it!! Good for creativity, memory building, strategy practice, and neatness.(they have to keep up with all those tiny parts or they can't build anything)

The included game is a bit lengthy on the instructions, but the xpods are fun to put together and build new things. You can combine parts of multiple sets to make larger creations, and it's all portable with the included cases.

I bought this for my daughter's 10th birthday. She loves it and can spend hours playing with the pods and different shapes. Once she makes the item according to the instructions, we modify them to make them cooler. Haven't had a chance to play the board game with the cards yet, but looking forward to it.

This is a nice collection of little Lego sets; one builds cars, one builds planes, etc. Lego is a great educational tool to increase young children's spacial reasoning abilities and is also great fun! There are many small parts, so this is not an item for very young children.

I bought this for my 7.5-yr-old son to play with while at Grandma's house this summer. He enjoyed following the directions to put them together and then had even more fun making his own creations. Another great invention by Lego! They never cease to amaze me.
