This review is from: Lehar: Die Lustige Witwe, Der Graf von Luxembourg, Paganini, Der Zarewitsch, Friederike, Das Land des Lachelns, Giuditta (13 CD's) (Audio CD)
No matter your age, I'm sure you wont find a better coverage of the hits from these operetta, even if they're all in German! All the favourites and not so well known offerings from each of these shows are first class offerings from well known singers-covering quite a few years. In addition there are separate tracks with the dialogue leading into each song. The orchestras are great, and if you're a Lehar lover like me, I defy you to find better versions than those on these 13 CDs recorded in Hi fi. I'm glad I found them at Amazon.com .

I watched the Merry Widow on TV probably Turner Classics and looked up what turned out to be the big box set from EMI that contained Lehar at his best. The joke around here is Germans unlike Norwegians can't laugh at themselves. He spans both World Wars without losing his humor and remorse that sometimes things just don't work out. These are light-hearted duets. All the emotions run rampant.
