5.0 out of 5 stars good alternative to the leather cases
I will primarily use this case for backpacking, so I was looking for something more durable and secure than the other Leica/Panasonic options.
I use this case for my LX-3 and it fits very well. With the lens protruding about 1/2" from the camera body there is also room for the strap (which I won't be using) or a couple of batteries. Very well made and a simple belt...

1.0 out of 5 stars FORGET IT
Very large case for such a small camera. Has a pocket for an extra SD card or two, but nowhere to put an extra battery. Strap is very wide and uncomfortable. Very well made, very impractical. I returned mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars good alternative to the leather cases, January 25, 2009
This review is from: Leica 18668 Cordura Camera Case for D-LUX 3 Digital Camera (Black) (Electronics)

I use this case for my LX-3 and it fits very well. With the lens protruding about 1/2" from the camera body there is also room for the strap (which I won't be using) or a couple of batteries. Very well made and a simple belt loop on the back. Not cheap, but excellent quality and shipping from DB Roth was via USPS and took about a week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Item - Fits D-Lux 4 Too!, December 31, 2008

This review is from: Leica 18668 Cordura Camera Case for D-LUX 3 Digital Camera (Black) (Electronics)
Case just arrived (very fast shipping from DB Roth) and exceeded my expectations. It's not actually black, but a deep grey/blue color - very classy and understated. Because its not "fitted" it happily accepts my D-Lux 4, which is a wee bit bigger than the D-Lux 3, with enough room to tuck in a wrist strap and a little pocket for an SD card or two. Inner lining is super-soft and plushy; outside is hardy cordura. Good quality plastic clasp and heavy duty, wide (over an inch) shoulder strap, which can be removed if you like. All-in-all a great alternative to the $150 fitted leather cases for the D-Lux 4 for about one-third the price.

Fits great, protects the camera, doesn't scratch, isn't leather, is very inexpensive and it's a genuine Leica product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the standard Leica leather case, December 29, 2010
By

This review is from: Leica 18668 Cordura Camera Case for D-LUX 3 Digital Camera (Black) (Electronics)
I've had this case and the standard D-LUX 3 Leica leather case and I have to say this case is by far superior.

The leather case is nice and all, but it's made of a smooth leather that is going to show scratches easily. Some may prefer the smooth leather, but I appreciate leather with a little bit rougher surface in order to disguise the scuffs that you are inevitably going to get. The strap on the leather case is far too narrow - this makes it kind of tough for a guy to use, it looks too much like a lady's purse. That might be all right for the ladies, but not all right for me. I am no stranger to the man bag, but there is no way I can pull off that leather case.

This case on the other hand is perfect. The strap is nice and wide - not skinny and narrow like on the leather case. The cordura surface is effectively impervious to scratches. The interior is a nice soft velvet which will not scratch up your camera. The clip on the front flap is nicely heavy duty. Also, if you want to remove the strap, it can be taken off, and there is a belt loop on the back of the case that can be used on your belt or on a backpack strap. The case has a nice stiff structure which gives a little so it offers nice protection from drops. Plus, the color is an attractive purplish steel gray - very nice.

Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about - a battery fits perfectly into the small pocket on the front. And because the D-LUX 3 supports SDHC there is little need to carry any other SD cards - just get a big one and be done with it.

This case will also fit the D-LUX 4. I sold my D-LUX 3 with the leather case, kept this case, and was happy to find the D-LUX 4 fits perfectly inside as well.

Really, this case is far better than other reviewers have stated.

For the D-LUX 3, for which there are practically no accessories to buy except for extra batteries, this carries everything you need to travel light. Isn't that the point of a compact camera?

For the D-LUX 4, this is not going to fit the extra leica grip. IF you use the grip made by Richard Franiec (search online), then the camera still fits perfectly in this case. You're not going to be able to fit the DMW-LA4 adapter tube or filters though.
