5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the World Class Binoculars, September 18, 2008

This review is from: Leica 8x42 BN Binocular (Black) (Electronics)
There really are only a handful of binocular brands and models at the top of the mountain of optical and build quality. In my opinion, Leica's best (Trinovid, Ultravid, and Duovid) are the first among equals. I would only buy a few binoculars without previewing the actual pair I was purchasing, among them the aforementioned Leicas, and top of the line Zeiss.

A side-by-side comparison with ANY other binocular (same magnification and objective size, of course) will instantly and decisively show Leica's superiority - the Leica's will be far brighter, have greater resolution, and will have superior edge-to-edge clarity. Try it - I assure you that the exercise will forever put you off lesser glass.

That's the upside. The downsides include weight - these are quite heavy, and COST. And I thought these were expensive when I bought mine!

By all means buy Leica if your budget will handle it. On the other hand, if you are looking for a very good binocular in the sub-$500 range, I recommend taking a look through some Leupold Pinnacles.
