I purchased this corer after my other corer (a cheaper model I purchased on Amazon) needed to be tossed. I was hesitant about spending the few extra dollars for this one especially with the negative review. Don't let that one review keep you from buying this item! If you are looking for a 12 slice corer then this is the model for to get. I wanted/needed a 12 slice corer to follow the advice of Alton Brown when making apple pie.
I really like this corer versus other corers, especially my previous corer. This one is actually sharp and cuts the apples not just mash/split them. Also it is hefty item, meaning that it weighs a lot. This is probably because it is not cast aluminum as other corers are. One down side to this corer, as with other corers, there is no easy (or safe) way to store because the blades are exposed. If there are kids in the home it needs to be kept out of reach. If you are like me and have an unorganized kitchen tool drawer, then you need to be careful that it does not get flipped over exposing the blades. This is a minor thing since I do not have a kid. I am not worried about this one falling apart or being ruined by the dishwasher. This is a great buy. Skip the other 10-12 slice corers on Amazon spend a few extra dollars and purchase this one; you won't be disappointed.

If your children love to eat apples this slicer will save you time from cutting with a traditional knife. It has been designed so that it can slice small or larger apples. It has large handles so that you can grip it and push down on it very well. It is extremely sharp so keep it in a safe place. I lover this slicer.

you do need to put a twisting to and fro type of pressure to help the slicer to push all the way down the fruit eventhough the blades are pretty sharp.
it feels heavy duty and durable eventhough i've only been using it for a couple of weeks now. it doesn't slice the fruits all the way down- the fruit slices is still connected at the base. i just pluck the cut slices out of the cutter and it's fine for me. i am pleased with my purchse.
