I have used this cherry stoner with smaller sour cherries and larger bing cherries. It works well no matter what the size of the cherry. I can pit 2 lbs of cherries in about 10 minutes. There is minimal squirting which can be controlled by placing your hand around the stoner near the opening to the chute down which the cherries travel. So there is no need to wear an apron while using the device. The one problem I had was trying to remove the spring and puncher from the handle. The first time I tried to pull the handle apart to remove these parts for cleaning, I couldn't squeeze the handle sides hard enough to pull the handle apart. I ended up wrapping a thin piece of rubber around the handle and then using pliers to squeeze the handle so I could pull it apart. This was only necessary the first time I tried to pull the handle apart. I can now squeeze the handle with just my hands to get it apart. So maybe the plastic is too stiff or something when the unit is new.

For the price and what it does its an ok piece of equipment. From the way it is setup one would expect the cherries to auto feed. Long experience has proven that such is not the case. One must manually drop the fruits in one at a time. Once you get the hang of it, you can move on at a good clip. Expect a cherry to get caught or not eject every now and again. Not a hassle to clean out.

I found this stoner to be an "absolute must" have if you are going to be handling a large number of cherries and you don't want to spend an enormous amount of time pitting your cherries one by one. I have a cherry tree that produces a bumper crop, but they all come at once, and the best thing to do, is to get them pitted and into the freezer quickly. The ONLY drawback with this appliance, is that there are very few directions, though the few that they DID give, are given in 10 different languages!!! (Not much help....)

Due to this over-simplification, I thought that the rubber stopper/"washer", that the directions said was to replace the cardboard one, was meant to be for storage purposes. After putting up the first 20 quarts of cherries, I looked at the one sentence given for <cleaning> the appliance, pulled the "washer" back out of the drawer, gave it my best guess as to where it would work best, and my pitter now performs at a six star level(if only I could give it that extra star, I would)!!!! The gadget was working about 85% of the time, leaving a few pits dangling from the fruit, but NOW, it performs with 100% accuracy, no matter how big or small the cherry. I am so pleased with my pitter. It was well worth the money. ANd, as far as clean up, if you can squeeze the plastic shaft hard enough, it dissembles for a thorough clean-up job. A wonderful invention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
