5.0 out of 5 stars Great all-steel egg-slicer...
I picked this up several years ago in the KitchenEtc store and absolutely love it. It's an all steel egg-slicer (not a cross-cut slicer). It's great for cutting mushrooms and strawberries as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Leifheit made in China
Leifheit Pro Line Stainless Steel Egg Slicer
The slicer I expected, was German made Leifheit. This is a heavy, casted metal, coated by thin layer o stainless steel coating( may peel in time).Wire cutting the egg, must be cleaned very carefully, may snap. I wish Amazon would state Made in China.

I picked this up several years ago in the KitchenEtc store and absolutely love it. It's an all steel egg-slicer (not a cross-cut slicer). It's great for cutting mushrooms and strawberries as well.

I usually use it to slice the eggs in all three dimensions for my salads. It slices evenly every time and the wires are sharp enough to keep slicing the egg when I turn the egg around to slice it vertically.

It has a nice heavy feel to it and sits sturdily on the counter without slipping, tho I find I'm always holding it in my hand to slice the eggs.

This is dishwasher safe. It has kept its beautiful shine all these four years later. If you're going to hand wash it, just make sure you get in those little crevices under the slicer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdily Made - Good Design, February 1, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Leifheit Pro Line Stainless Steel Egg Slicer (Kitchen)
Having been a fan of Pampered Chef products for years, I hesitated to switch to another manufacturer. BUT, since I'd gone through several slicers in the past year alone, I thought I'd give the competition a chance.

In the past month and a half, I've used the Leifheit slicer for eggs, strawberries and mushrooms, and it's behaving like a champ. I like the one-piece design and it's great to be able to toss it in the top rack of the dishwasher and go.

Will it continue the way it has begun? Stay tuned to see if it passes the test of time . . .

Very good slicer...however, not 100% stainless steel...it is also chrome plated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Premier egg slicer, June 11, 2007

If you had told me that I would spend $13 for an egg slicer, I would have told you that I would be committed first. Well, I've broken two slicers, and bought another one for $2.50 and was displeased with it. I carefully read all the reviews of this one and decided to go for it. I am not disappointed. This one is so well made that it will probably outlive me. I especially like the fact that it slices eggs in either direction, and of course, that it goes in the dishwasher. Supposedly it will slice mushrooms and kiwi, so I'm going to try it out. This model is fairly heavy, and the wires are substantial. You get what you pay for. I hope that this is the last one of these that I buy; if not, I will revisit this review.

August 13, 2011 update: I have treated this thing better than my best friend. The wires are starting to be somewhat crooked, resulting in crooked slices, but none of the wires have broken yet. It goes in the dishwasher at least once a week on the top shelf only, with nothing around it...what more does it want?

All the other egg slicers I have used PALE in comparison to this one!

This is a JOY to use and easy to clean.

This egg slicer works fine for eggs AND for mushrooms. It also slices kiwi. It is heavy duty. I think this slicer is a great deal for the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only the wire cutters are stainless., November 27, 2006
This review is from: Leifheit Pro Line Stainless Steel Egg Slicer (Kitchen)
It's okay, but I was disappointed. Only the wire cutters are stainless. The Slicer is chrome. I didn't want that because I knew it would start to show rust marks if I didn't dry it completely each time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Olives, too, March 20, 2009
This review is from: Leifheit Pro Line Stainless Steel Egg Slicer (Kitchen)
I can hear you going aaack!, but yes, I use my egg slicer to slice whole green and ripe olives. (It's sooo much cheaper.) I had been using a slicer I received as a shower gift 35 years ago - a cheap little plastic one. I broke it on an olive pit! The reviews are what made me choose thise particular brand, plus it looked like it would be able to handle the olives. So far, so good. And, it does a good job on eggs, too.
