5.0 out of 5 stars Slices and cores with ease
I prefer the Leifheit to the Oxo because it has more blades so it makes more slices. The Oxo, and other six slice cutters produce wedges that are too large. The Leifheit's slices are perfect for snacks or recipes.

I also like the all-metal construction. The plastic units have a flimsy feel. The Leifheit feels solid.

And the blades are...

I bought this to replace a deteriorating plastic-framed Oxo. I like getting twelve slices instead of eight. I like the all-metal design.

However the coring center should be a larger diameter. I frequently have to trim the seeds from larger apples.

Also the blade needs better sharpening and tapering. The Oxo had a better blade design; the...

I also like the all-metal construction. The plastic units have a flimsy feel. The Leifheit feels solid.

And the blades are plenty sharp. However, one does have to exert some force on the slicer to make it work. Thankfully, the unit's sturdy construction is up to the task. One caveat: very large apples will not pass through the slicer as its diameter is too small.

The Oxo had a better blade design; the radial blades were spot-welded to the core and then sharpened as one unit. But this Leifheit has tabs fastening the radial blades to the center. Those tabs create friction and catch a lot of apple fiber that has to be scrubbed out. A taller blade would also help stability as the blade is pushed down.

I would buy the Leifheit again, but we still find the Oxo easier to push.

It worked fine for about 25 apples, then the blades broke away from the ring. Based on the other reviews, I may have received a defective sample, but I can't recommend.

I was using an old, cheap, slicer, but it was difficult to slice through apples. I than decided to purchase this Leifheit Pro. Wow, what a difference! The sharp blades cut through apples with ease into 12 even wedges. Now, I'm surely going to eat an "Apple a Day".
This is a great addition to my kitchen tools.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't slice all the way through, November 1, 2008

This apple slicer/corer does a good job of getting through an apple, except for the last bit of skin at the bottom. I'm not sure why it is designed this way but you end up having to break off the individual apple pieces to separate from the skin at the bottom. I guess cutting on a towel might let you get all the way through but that's not ideal. Hence, 3 stars because I think people should be aware of this bothersome issue.

I purchase the Leifheit apple slicer/corer expecting that would give me perfectly cut slices for my apple pies. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. Although it looks and feels like a heavy duty item, it was a total disappointment when I used it. The blades are not sharp enough and they do not cut all the way through. I am a pretty strong woman I think and I really have to put all my strength to push this apple corer through the apple. After succeeding that task the slices are still attached and you have to pick them out one by one which makes it very time consuming. I think using my paring knife I can core and slice an apple way faster. It is ashame because it looks well made but it really has a design flaw. The blades needed to be sharper and longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, November 18, 2008
This review is from: Leifheit Pro Line Stainless Steel Apple Slicer/Corer (Kitchen)
This slicer is stronger and easier to use than the one I have, and it does a nice job on an apple, very quick and right on through. None of these I've used go completely all the way through an apple every time, but it's plenty close enough for the pieces to be easily and quickly plucked out. The grip is good, and raised to prevent knuckle bashing such as the ones with straight handles do. This is a good one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helps make equally sized slices, but not so easy to use., January 2, 2011

Let me make this clear. The premise of an apple corer/slicer is put the gadget over the apple, centered, and push down on the slicer, and behold, a cored and evenly-sliced apple. The bad thing about this slicer is the amount of push you have to put on the slicer to get it to go through the apple. I'm 265 pounds, and it wasn't as simple as it looks, or should have been. Once you get it started, then it's simple to complete the cut. It's the getting it started that's the not so easy part. I guess it needs to be sharper than it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works, February 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What can I say? It slices apples. It is pretty sturdy (approximately 100 apples and counting). It is relatively easy to clean and stands up to the dishwasher. The slices are a good size for snacking. As others have mentioned, the central core is a bit on the small side which leads to an occasional seed and/or piece of core in one or two slices. These are easily removed with teeth, fingers, or a knife, and it does mean you don't waste very much of the apple.

Perfect? No. But, I haven't seen a perfect apple slicer for sale yet and this one is quite good. I even bought my dad one for Christmas.
