Overall, I'm quite happy with the device.

The onboard maps are a feature that I haven't used that much since I run and cycle mostly in areas I'm quite familiar with, but I guess it can be helpful.

Update: 9/12/2014 I got a new device from Leikr ~3 weeks after my initial post.

tl;dr version: I came from a Garmin 405. Wish I had not bought the Leikr, sold the 405 immediately, and now stuck with the leikr.

I was a leikr kickstarter backer and have the kickstarter version. Been using this for a few months. Hope this review will bring the people who are oversold on Leikr's claimed features (like me) back to reality.

I use this daily, 2-3 sessions per day (one jog session and two bike sessions). Total tracked distance per day would be around 20-22 miles.

Pros:
- GPS locks are fast when it works
- Easy to read screen even in sunlight
- WiFi sync is nice

Neutral:
- Frequent firmware updates.
- Despite it being a color LCD, colors are washed and pretty hard to see. If you're running/biking, you will not notice the colors. Luckily, all data fields are black/white.
- Maps. I think its pretty gimicky. Maybe others will actually try to look at the map when they are working out. Map orientation cannot be changed. Area of interest must be loaded ahead of time so if you're trying to explore somewhere completely new, you will not have any map data. Luckily, each AOI tile covers a fairly large area.

Cons:
- Don't believe their advertised battery life. All the "in theory" battery capacity doesn't matter when I get around 4-5 hours in reality. This is just the watch being used, not using the maps features, and not connected with any ANT/BT accessory.
- Firmware updates. Might fix something, might break something. Check their forums and look at the firmware release note section. For example, the last firmware knocked out my ability to get a GPS lock.

I have mixed feeling about this watch.
I am replacing my garmin 405cx, so that is my baseline comparison.
So far, not really crazy about it. Not worse, but not way better, like I expected from a newer watch (I had that 405 for 4+yrs, and another one before).
PROS:
- Big Screen: you can-t go wrong with that. It has a decent size so you don't look funny. Seeing most of your stats in one screen is great.
- Satellites lock fast (if it's not failing - see cons)
- Not too many options on the watch itself (it's good since you don't have to navigate through lots of menus)
- More precise GPS. With this one I am not running on the ocean anymore!
- Well constructed.
- Wifi Sync: big plus.

CONS:
- The way to configure it for the first time is not that easy. I can see lots of "not so technical" folks having troubles. If the watch uses a simple configuration file... well it should have an GUI for windows, and MAC. A simple software where you connect the usb port and send the file with the wifi conf, weight, age, workouts, etc. Very primitive configuration so far. Simplistic, but not apple simplistic.
- Not really crazy about the web configuration either, looks and feels old and not that intuitive . ( jquery it!) .
- Battery... hmm I don't know. One of the reasons the satellites lock that fast is because the watch never "sleeps". It's constantly looking for satellites. If you forget to plug to the charger after your workout, forget about using it the next day. I don't mind waiting 20/30 seconds for a lock if that means not being worried all the time to recharge it.

After 4 months of trying to make it work (so I was really motivated to make it work) I have to conclude that the Leikr is nothing more than a lightweight stopwatch. Paying $350 for it seems excessive. The satellite connection is just not happening. Not in Hong Kong, not in San Diego or South Caroline and not in Switzerland. I turn on the watch before I run (20 minutes). After this I mostly try to get a connection outside for 5 minutes before I run but nevertheless the fastest satellite connection ever was 7 minutes into the run (1 time). During todays run it was after 38 minutes.......

Additionally the battery life and charging is not user friendly.
Never again.

Bought the original Kickstarter version. Since then the frequent updates have packed the watch with features: heart rate strap support, quick GPS fix, footpod support, cycling cadence support, cycling speed and cadence support, customisable screens with many options and some cool charts, support for heart rate zones, creating custom workouts....
Just a reminder it does not support bluetooth smart, and is based on Ant+. However, this is not much of an issue, as there are plenty of very good Ant+ devices out there, and many devices these days both support Ant+ and bluetooth smart. My personal preference goes to Ant+ support as for cyclists there are much more ANT+ devices out there.

What I like most is the clear and large display, the Wifi synchronisation (no dongles, nothing, just wifi) and automatic uploads to Strava and Endomondo. Support is great, quick and responsive and the watch is light to wear. And again, this watch keeps on getting better and receives new features every three months until now, which is pretty cool in itself. Only caution is the battery life, as it goes up to a good four hours. For most people that will be enough I guess (at least most of my sports activities are between 30 minutes and 2,5 hours, so I never actually had issues.

The onboard maps are a feature that I haven't used that much since I run and cycle mostly in areas I'm quite familiar with, but I guess it can be helpful. You can synchronise Endomondo routes to the watch, so you could follow an unknown route through the watch.
