It was totally by accident that I heard this CD. My girlfriend and I were at a record store and she was taking forever to decide what she wanted. Finally, fighting boredom, I discovered a listening booth and stumbled onto this CD. The minute it started playing, I was immediately blown away. Thank God for listening booths!

From the first track to the last, I was knocked out by this guy's delivery and the jazz riffs playing in the background. He's got a voice that's kind of like a smooth late night DJ that's so cool that you don't even care what he's saying. But after listening to it a few times, I really started to dig the words too. This guy's great. I bought the CD that night and I'm not even into poetry or jazz.

My girlfriend thought I was crazy when I bought it, but now she's digging the CD too. As a matter of fact, I have to check to make sure she doesn't take it to work with her.

As a result of listening to this CD, I am now seeking out other poets who recite their works in Leimert Park, a mostly black section of L.A. This by a white guy, who was born and raised in the Midwest and who grew up listening to the Stones!

Having lived in L.A. for over two years, I was totally unaware of this area. But now, I can be seen there almost every Wednesday night at the World Stage, where Daa'ood has appeared as well as some other great poets.

I'm so jazzed that I might even start writing my own poetry!

This one i was given by a friend of a friend who heard i like jazz. Wow, what a recording. I've had this album for a number of years now, and from time to time i have a listen and am reminded of how wonderful and rich this planet is! This is a unique situation where a human puts themselves on the line and speaks their mind, with all its horrors. astonishing. and then there's the music: Billy Higgins and company. anything by Higgins is a masterpiece to me!!!! The music is justified by the words, and vice versa. A really really haunting and delicate musical offering that impressed me accidently, and ever since very deliberately.

i have searched high and low for this!! i first came across it on a manhattan street where a disheveled quasi-homeless man sold it to me for a dollar...i lost it and have been heartbroken ever since...until today! for i have found it (eureka!)!!especially good for its symmetry and powerful poetics...great for use in the classroom..i am so happy i could spit!
