From School Library Journal
Grade 4-8 A visiting vampire and a zombie enliven Halloween activities in a univer sity town. Amy and Jamie are detective twins. Amy has psychic powers, and she ``calls-up'' cousin Jebediah, a Revolu tionary War officer and an ancestor, who intercedes helpfully in matters of safety. The parents play only a minor role, are neither as bright nor as together and sensitive as the children, and are preoccupied with their intellectual friends so they are frequently absent during intense action. This is a rollicking good, fast-paced ghostly tale, highly suspenseful, with bats, porphyria, the undead, and other vampire lore includ ed. Uncritical readers will easily ignore the occasionally pretentious language style of the twins, the childish speech patterns of the university professor fa ther, and other small items that mar the flow of continuity. The book is quite frightening and suspenseful, yet Ander son avoids violence and bloodshed. It should be popular. Leslie Chamberlin, Napa City-County Library, Calif.
