Extremely enjoyable reading!,
This review is from: Iona (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was looking for a good suspense/action story to read other than my usual John Grishman novel and I found it in "Iona". It started out a little slow for me but by Chapter 3 I could not put the book down. The interplay between the characters Lona and Niall was very intriguing. I especially enjoyed reading the Scotish dialect and felt I had developed a decent Scotish accent by the end of the book. I liked it so much I purchased (12) copies to give to my friends.

I am delighted to recommend Iona,

Good well-researched exciting historical romances are hard to find so I am especially pleased to have found Iona. A high-spirited Scottish love story plays against a wild Scottish coastal background where dangers from the past confront the deadly dangers of political wars. A beautiful Scottish woman who would do anything to save her people finds her hardest choices lie with the dangerous man she loves. If you enjoy a well-plotted well-written and above all well-researched tale with wonderful characters you can really care about, you'll want to reach for Iona, too.

Mesmerising, engrossing, haunting!!!,
This review is from: Iona (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Melanie Jackson's second book, and in it she weaves a tale of the Scottish Highlands, with the canny feyness that makes you think she lived it in another time. I write history and lore of the Picts and Celts, so I generally cringe when I read a Scottish Historical. NOT THIS ONE!!!From the opening pages, she takes you into the mind of a woman who stands alone, who has the full weight of her clan upon her shoulders, cares little for men and the wars, only the survival of her people and she is willing to ensure this even to committing murder. I could not put this book down!! WISE Writers and Readers Historical Selection

After reading other reviews, I am skeptical about writing a review myself. I was very disappointed in this book. I only finished the book because I like to finish what I start. I did not understand the book. It felt like the book revolved around two people only. It felt as if though the the storyline kept jumping from one to another without explaining itself. All I know about the book was that it was cold and raining all the time. And that the main male character didn't like staying on the island of Iona. I didn't understand their plans. I was just lost! I don't even know what else I can say about the book, because even though I read it a week ago, I don't even remember the characters! I have read numerous scottish tales, and this was the worst.

This book was awesome! You could feel the mist and smell the sea air and those ghostly wails positively gave you the shivers. I must congratulate Ms Jackson on a brilliantly written novel with great atmosphere, strong loveable characters, and a wonderful plot. Can't wait to see what she writes for us next!

Iona is a must in every historical romance reader's library,

This review is from: Iona (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book has everything you could want in it from stormy seas and wailing ghosts to romance and strong heroines. Ms. Jackson is very true to the time period and certainly places you right there. I loved the scene in the cave when they were digging up the treasure and he was trying to ignore the wailing sounds of ghosts and she kept talking about them. It was so good. Please write another book soon!!

A must read for any historical, romance fan,

Iona was an intriguing book with a very strong heroine and a wonderful, sexy hero. I loved the interaction between the two of them. The author was very true to the time period and really made me feel as if I was there on that desolute island! I could feel the wind in my face and hear the howling of the ghosts as they cried out to the heroine, Lona. This book is one of those reads you cannot put down once you start. It has everything from treasure, storms, laughter and tears not to mention the romance. Ms. Jackson truly knows her craft and I highly recommend this book.

I was realy disappointed in this book! The author was continually describing a very desolate island and how persecuted the clan was, I felt totally depressed and would not read another book from this author. There was hardly a good story and I really struggled to finish this book and I am a big fan of this kind of romance!

I love historicals and this is one of the best I've ever read!!! It has everything in it. You feel like you're there the descriptions are so clear. I loved Lona, the heroine. She's smart and strong. I hope Melanie Jackson continues to write many more books.

I thought this was a book for a gentleman in the beginning,
By A Customer
This review is from: Iona (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
From the very beginning and the cover I did think this book was a masculine story about a part of the war of 1745. Then someone told me no it's a romance adventure for the title Lona. So I read it anyway and found that it was a book appealing to men and women alike with all the adverture and romance either could wish for in a good read. The cover shows a beautiful lady who had a mind of her own and a loyalty to her Clan, characteristics no one could refute in story telling. I was entranced with the story and and the atmosphere I love in adventure of the period. A good read, gentlemen! Don't miss it.
