4.0 out of 5 stars "Joy" of an album!, January 11, 2000
This review is from: Leisure Noise (Audio CD)
Super-fun and catchy, Gay dad have really made a superb album. Blending rock sounds like Oasis and The Pretenders, (they'll be opening for the latter on their next U.S.tour) they like they're guitars fuzzy and they're melodies to be sweeping. Leisure Noise made it to number eight on my best of the year list, quite a feat in such a wonderful year of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spiffing, December 4, 1999
This review is from: Leisure Noise (Audio CD)
Aye, this is a splendid album that I listened to during the part in summer when intense rainstorms pelt and hammer down on roofs. My window was open, drenching my sill and Gay Dad opening with Dimstar and now, whenever i listen to it, I'm remided of those days of utmost refreshment, which is so appropriate, because the band are very refreshing in sound (Cliff's voice is beautiful). My one complaint is that after a few listens, I became slightly bored. I don't know why. I never will. But there it is. Also, it's a shame they branded themself with that very "reactionary" name. A bold thing to do (and it keeps homophobes away), but ... hmmm.

4.0 out of 5 stars From Earth With Love, August 31, 2000
This review is from: Leisure Noise (Audio CD)
This was recommended to me by a friend who is notoriously picky about his music, who emphatically insisted that I get this CD. It was an excellent recommendation. This group demonstrates a wide range in their songwriting, from the plaintive "Black Ghost" to the speeding-ticket song "To Earth With Love," carrying you through the entire disc without a hitch. The last track, "Jesus Christ" is easily one of my favorite songs lately - prayerful, pleading, and musically very interesting. I'm not a religious man, but I can feel a certain... something about that song that I really like, on many levels. I took a star off my rating, though, because the liner notes consist of nothing but abstract color blobs. I would have liked to have had the lyrics to look at, or more band info, but I'm weird like that. The music is solid, though, so it's a good buy.
