"Joy" of an album!,
By
This review is from: Leisure Noise (Audio CD)
Super-fun and catchy, Gay dad have really made a superb album. Blending rock sounds like Oasis and The Pretenders, (they'll be opening for the latter on their next U.S.tour) they like they're guitars fuzzy and they're melodies to be sweeping. Leisure Noise made it to number eight on my best of the year list, quite a feat in such a wonderful year of music.

Spiffing,

Aye, this is a splendid album that I listened to during the part in summer when intense rainstorms pelt and hammer down on roofs. My window was open, drenching my sill and Gay Dad opening with Dimstar and now, whenever i listen to it, I'm remided of those days of utmost refreshment, which is so appropriate, because the band are very refreshing in sound (Cliff's voice is beautiful). My one complaint is that after a few listens, I became slightly bored. I don't know why. I never will. But there it is. Also, it's a shame they branded themself with that very "reactionary" name. A bold thing to do (and it keeps homophobes away), but ... hmmm.

From Earth With Love,
By Chris Gladis "Chris" (Osaka, JAPAN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Leisure Noise (Audio CD)
This was recommended to me by a friend who is notoriously picky about his music, who emphatically insisted that I get this CD. It was an excellent recommendation. This group demonstrates a wide range in their songwriting, from the plaintive "Black Ghost" to the speeding-ticket song "To Earth With Love," carrying you through the entire disc without a hitch. The last track, "Jesus Christ" is easily one of my favorite songs lately - prayerful, pleading, and musically very interesting. I'm not a religious man, but I can feel a certain... something about that song that I really like, on many levels. I took a star off my rating, though, because the liner notes consist of nothing but abstract color blobs. I would have liked to have had the lyrics to look at, or more band info, but I'm weird like that. The music is solid, though, so it's a good buy.

It's a really listenable alternative to mass-produced pop,

Leisure Noise is one of those rare albums which border on pop but are still respectable to own and own up to owning. The tracks are melodic, but are also thoughtful. There is a high point and low point to this album which is very reminiscent of Manic Street Preachers or maybe Stereophonics, but the music itself has a feel very distinct of both those bands. It's a good listen that flows from beginning to end. Put it on, and just listen, and you'll note that there's not a song out of place. It's a complete package, and that's nice in a time where the manufacture of chart friendly singles are the mainstay of the music industry.

Oasis wishes they made this cd!,

This CD is simply put a great work. My wife( who doesn't keep up with music at all) asked me who was in the cd player the other night as we were going out. As my title suggest I think Oasis wishes they wrote songs this good. OH JIM is certainly a great song as well as many others. One of the best CD's the past couple of years without question. I agree with another reviewer though there should have been lyrics and band information.

Gay Dad Rule!,

"Leisure Noise" is a great album full of great guitar pop songs. The obvious stand out track is "To Earth With Love" which was is one of the greatest singles I have heard in a long time and was the reason I bought the album. This album has no fillers just brilliant songs and that is the reason why it is rarely out of my stereo.

"Black Ghost" has to be one of the best pop tracks I've heard in years. If you like OASIS, buy GAY DAD "Leisure Noise"...you will not be dissapointed!

pretty cool cd of a band that was ultra hyped when they first came out, but i guess they failed to make much of an impression on the general cd buying public. lots of great songs on this record and it deserves to be heard.

Once Again, Excellent British Pop/Rock,

I came across this album totally by accident while listening to a bunch of other mp3's. I didn't know anything about this band prior to that. But the music did it. The songs are very interesting melodically and the overall musical production is of high quality. Did I mention that the vocals are excellent too? Its rare to hear such original music that is so well rounded and nicely packaged. Jesus Christ is the ultimate track on this album in my mind. It fits right into the classic Pop/Rock hall of fame with other classics from the Beatles, Queen, Oasis and so forth.

PURE POP PULP,

This CD is exquisite. "Jesus Christ" is the slow build anthem Live was never smart enough to write. "Dimstar" is an alternative gem. "Black Ghost" is the delicious indulgence that drops us in our tracks w/ its melody. This album is one bad song short of genius. Enjoy. Impress your friends.
