Product Description

Leisure Suit Larry 7 Love for Sail Drop a world-class lounge lizard onto a cruise ship filled with gorgeous women and what do you get? Side-splitting slapstick? A bawdy bevy of beauties? "The Lust Boat?" Actually, you've got it right in your hands. It's Leisure Suit Larry in Love for Sail. This trip, Al Lowe sets his wacky sense of humor to "full speed ahead" in the latest, greatest chapter in the hapless, hopeless life of software's best-loved loser. It's nautical, but nice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Larry looks to shiver his timber on the high seas, November 22, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail (CD-ROM)
Like him or not, the creation and evolution of Leisure Suit Larry parallels the birth and development of PC games as popular entertainment. Some people find the Leisure Suit Larry games offensive, but it's just mindless fun packed with as many sexual innuendoes as Al Lowe could pack on a floppy disk or CD. Needless to say, the game is not intended for youngsters. Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail is pretty much a benchmark in the series. Out with the pixelated Larry and in with the new fully animated Larry Laffer. The game's graphics really were quite good when this game first came out back in 1996, and it still makes for a fun way to pass the time today.

Yes, Larry Laffer takes to the high seas looking for love, and - while the PMS Bouncy isn't exactly the Love Boat - it does offer our hapless hero a cast of potential mates to salivate over. There's Victorian Principles, the librarian who just needs a taste of the erotic to stir up her hormones; Dewmi Moore, a hot little number that plays a mean game of Strip Liars Dice; fashion designer Jamie Lee Coitus; the dangerously seductive Annette Boning; Drew Baringmore, who really lives up to her name; the country mother-daughter duo of Nailmi and Wydoncha Jugg; and, of course, Captain Thygh. Larry doesn't let the fact that he's booked in the worst cabin of all time or that he is the very personification of loser get him down; he'll shamelessly hit on any female (except the ship's peg-legged, foul-mouthed pirate of a janitor). He's especially eager to win the Thygh Man Trophy Contest, which promises the winner a full week working under the captain in her private cabin. All he has to do to win is to come out on top in the Lovemaster 2000, Best-Dressed Man, Tail Deck Bowling, Craps, Poop Deck Horseshoes, and Culinary Cookoff competitions. If you've seen Larry, you know there is only one way he can possibly win anything - yep, he's going to have to cheat.

While you're wandering around the ship hitting on everything that moves and trying to figure out how in the world Leisure Suit Larry could possibly win a Best Dressed contest, you'll find plenty of entertaining things to do and see. There's the Where's Dildo? Mini-game, for example, which has you trying to find all the hidden little - well, you know. For your maximized gaming experience, the Cyber-Sniff 2000 card that comes with the game lets you smell what Larry is smelling at different times (none of which are roses, let me tell you). The Strip Liars Dice game is particularly enjoyable (especially when you're winning). If you need a little rest, just pop over to the Proud Lil' Seaman Lounge and enjoy a most memorable performance by the Juggs or listen in to the animatronic Bill Clinton comedian telling an almost endless supply of Bill Clinton jokes. Keep your eyes open, and you'll even get to see Larry creator Al Lowe in the game (but don't look too closely, as he tends to hang around the Clothing-Optional Pool). There are just all kinds of goodies to discover here (and, for those who make it to the end, there's a nasty little surprise that can really get your blood pumping for a minute or two).

Of course, the main problem with classic games such as this is the fact that Windows XP is not even close to backwards-compatible. Technically, you cannot play this game on a Windows XP machine. You can, however, run it in a DOS emulator (I use DOSBox) on your XP machine; it's a far from ideal way to play, as you tend to have to save and reload the game every once in a while and the frame rates can get a little flooky, but it does make it possible for you to play Leisure Suit Larry Love for Sail on today's PCs.
