Product Description

HERBS: Treat yourself to fresh herbs right from your garden! The difference when home grown is impressive! All are excellent for adding distinctive flavor to meat, and fish dishes, gravies, soups, salads and vegetables. They are fun to grow and make an attractive garden addition!

Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), a native of India, is widely used in Thai and Vietnamese cooking. Lemon grass is a perennial, which means once you plant it, the grass comes back year after year. Depending on the area you live in the plant will go dormant in the winter. In harsh climates the plant will need to be potted and wintered indoors. This aromatic herb is used in Caribbean and many types of Asian cooking and has become very popular in the United States. Most of the commercial crops for the United States are grown in California and Florida. Lemon grass is also used for medicinal purposes. It is hardy in zones 7-11. In colder areas bring inside as a houseplant in the winter.

Culinary Uses
This is a very pungent herb and is normally used in small amounts. The entire stalk of the grass can be used. The grass blade can be sliced very fine and added to soups. The bulb can be bruised and minced for use in a variety of recipes. The light lemon flavor of this grass blends well with garlic, chilies, and cilantro. The herb is frequently used in curries as well as in seafood soups. It is also used to make tea.

Medicinal and Other Uses
This grass is rich in a substance called citral, the active ingredient in lemon peel. This substance is said to aid in digestion as well as relieves spasms, muscle cramps, rheumatism and headaches. Lemon grass is also used commercially as the lemon scent in many products including soaps, perfumes and candles. A related plant, (Cymbopogon nardus) is the ingredient in citronella candles sold to ward off mosquitoes and other insects.

I put about 25 in a wet papertowel and plastic baggy...in about 3 days they seemed to germinate at about 90%.

They are doing great as transplants. Healthy and green. Thanks so much!!!!!

I ordered this on 2/28/14 and did not receive it until 5/5/14. The seeds came in a small, clear, plastic zip bag with a "Lemon Grass" stick affixed to it. I ordered two Lemon Grass varieties; however, since neither bag came with the typical planting instructions/paper seed packet, normally associated with purchasing seeds, I have no way of telling them apart. I guess my next step it to do some more research on the internet to see if I can find some planting instructions for both varieties, divide the packets in half, and label four separate pots, to ensure that at least half of both packets will grow into successful plants. More work than I really wanted to do for this project.

I can't rate the lemon grass because I haven't received any seeds yet, but if there going to be anything like the Kochia Scoparia grass I should not waste my time it's passed 48 days and Nothing has grown .I don't think I'll every order from this website again.

So far, I have only had one sprout so far. Yet, to the seed's defense it requires warm and humidity which sprouting conditions I have not met. So, hopefully I'll get more to sprout when the seasons change. It is currently winter and I am sprouting indoors with no tools to help with sprouting or lights. It's only been 10 days and the sprout that I have is about 2 inches tall so far.
