they are in their own world,

Kíla seriously, is leaps and bounds above all the pop monotony of today. Throwing together a rich assortment of instruments from around the world while still retaining a beautiful irish vibe. I saw these guys live last year and the show was completely electrifying even without Dee Armstrong a pivotal part of the band who I believe stayed in Ireland with her children. Rónán Ó Snodaigh the lead vocalist and king of the bodhrán, is an amazing character to watch on stage. Eoin Dillon the Uileann piper, made his own pipes which he plays as if he has been attached to them since in the womb. This band of legitimate geniuses (music and otherwise) are a perfect fit for one another. This cd is simply brilliant, I highly recommend it to those who have an appreciation for great music.

Another Great Album by Kila,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lemonade & Buns (Audio CD)
I first heard Kila on a cut on Gaelic Voices. From that I purchased Tog E Go Bog E. It just blew me away. I eagerly awaited Lemonade & Buns and it didn't disappoint. If you're looking for just plain good music that doesn't easily fall into any category I'd check it out. It'll rock you, haunt you, put a grin on your face and set your toes tapping. If you're looking for "new age" fare with celtic lite trimmings and angelic soaring vocals then look elsewhere.

I heard bits of this album on NPR one afternoon so I ordered it. The first track, "The Compledgegationist" is incredible and quite evoking (and best listened to loud). It is followed by a gaelic rap song, "Tine Lasta" which is original and a pleasure to listen to, even if you don't understand the words. After the first two tracks, the album loses a little pace. The rest of the tracks are okay, but not up to the quality of the first two. It's a pity because when you first put the CD in to play, you are blown away and lead to believe you're found something new and unique. So, I simply keep replaying tracks 1 and 2.

EAR CANDY,

This is an excellent cd, pure unadulterated joy to listen to. Each track has its own unique personality which reveals an incredible complexity of sound and texture..it would be difficult to top their last cd but the more I listen the more I think they did it.

An energetic option to traditional Irish formula, Kila often has more in common with multi-genre pals Afro-Celt than less ambitious neighbors, though the pace rarely escapes a lively chemistry for something even more meaningfully broad.

Wonderful musical energy, and a devastatingly beautiful ballad extra!,

Other comments have spoken about the great musical energy of this album. Indeed, Kìla makes inspiring music!
The only thing I really feel to add here, is the necessary attention for the final song. The reason why I personally cherish this Kila album especially. "Ce Tu Fein" is an utterly beautiful and touching melancholic ballad, as I ever heard! About homeless people apparently. (Not sung by their main singer).

Absolutely Incredible,
By Kerry L. Creson (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews

This CD has quickly become my favorite with its celtic/african beat. The combination is very cool. I first heard it last spring in a music store at the airport in Dublin. It was the perfect gift to myself to top off my trip. It is not surprising to hear such great music come out of such a great country. I listen to it all the time.

Get a new singer.,

I know my Celtic music. (I own more than 400+ Celtic related CD's)Kila is a great band--musically--their instrumentals are great. Unique rhythms, upbeat, and simply different from other Celtic bands. However--Kila needs a new singer. He has a reggae quality that simply does not work. Sure it's unique but I simply can't listen to any of the vocals. This is not coming from someone who only listens to Irish music--I listen to all kinds of music and can tolerate vocals from heavy metal to folk. But Kila's vocalist just doesn't do it for me. If this band had a more Celtic inspired singer--they would be unstopable. However--other bands like Solas or Nomos still domiante the Celtic world. Get this album is you like the instrumental side of Celtic music. Avoid it if you only enjoy the smooth vocals of a Celtic song.

When I first heard this CD (on the listening board at Borders) I was completely blown away. It has become my all time favorite CD, which I listen to all day at my desk at work, at home, in the car. Buy this CD -- you won't be sorry!
