3.0 out of 5 stars It's alright.
I love getting information about different theories on ancient civilizations, and this book does provide some theories and gives good basic information. It's not a book you will walk away from and think was well written. Although it does give much information, it does not give a lot of supporting evidence, rather it sounds like pieces of other peoples materials sewn into...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lessons from the past, present and future, April 18, 2004
This review is from: Lemuria & Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future (Paperback)
Shirley Andrews wrote a fascinating book about the history of Lemuria and Atlantis. When it comes to sharing information about lost cultures and civilizations, the "evidences", "theories" and "truths" are many. The way this book is written combines these different aspects in a masterful way without being presumptious in any way. Beyond this, Andrews builds a bridge between today's developments and similar, recurring patterns in the past- which led to the demise of societies. Her conclusion: Let's do it better this time and let's do something about it right now! I highly recommend this book to people who are interested in the big picture beyond time and space. And those who asked themselves in biology, geography, philosophy and history lessons at school: "Is that all?"

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye opener., July 22, 2006

This review is from: Lemuria & Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future (Paperback)
Okay I seem to be the only person giving the book 4 stars.

I'll have to admit I never really knew about how much evidence still exists today of Atlantis. I've just heard stories of the place over and over again, thinking it is some sort of myth. I think the author did a good job on presenting the evidences of still alive. She discusses the ancient ruins found underwater in various places in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean i believe. And also the underground tunnels that exist in South America. These places are pretty non-existant in the media of our current world today. It is obvious a lot of information is censored to obscure our past.

The author talks a lot about life in Lemuria and Atlantis. Topics include crystals, energy, technology, and a whole lot more. Even the involvement of extraterrestials were briefly mentioned. I believe pretty much most books based on "truth" share a lot of similars ideas that converge, and this is one of them.

One of the key points of the story is that Andrews tells us our society today will meet the same fate as our past civilisations if we don't care for our environment. We aren't handling our technology the way we should and it is going to eventually destroy the planet.

Like I said, 4 stars, because there were some points were I thought needed to be more interesting and readable. At times I really got bored, and just skimmed through. However, the majority was still pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lemuria and Atlantis - One nation, two worlds apart, January 29, 2004
This review is from: Lemuria & Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future (Paperback)
In Shirley Andrews' latest literary masterpiece, she uncovers the shroud that has long hovered over the great island nations of both Atlantis and Lemuria. Photos contained within the pages of this book are astounding, if not at least mind-boggling. This book will not only make you think quite a bit more seriously about the many pasts of both Lemuria and Atlantis, but it will also almost force you to see just how much evidence there really is out there about the existance, and continual existance of these great nations. This book is the best yet, and the author is one of the best I have ever had the honor of knowing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lemuria and Atlantis, January 5, 2004
This review is from: Lemuria & Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future (Paperback)
This book is the author's provocative and fascinating continuation of her previous book on Atlantis, but the current study has increased in both scope and depth, treating not only of Atlantis but of other civilizations contemporary with Atlantis. Anyone with even a modicum of interest in these lost civilizations, and in their relationships to modern times and cultures, will find this material with its answers to heretofore unanswered questions irresistible reading.

Shirley Andrews has combined a true wealth of knowledge into one understandable and forward thinking book that just can't be put down. She has explained and expanded on quoted material from a vast range of sources which touch every aspect of life on these two highly evolved lands. Shirley helps us to relate to the real people who lived, died and struggled to survive as the world they knew collapsed around them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lemuria and Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Futur, July 8, 2004
This review is from: Lemuria & Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future (Paperback)
When Shirley Andrews invited me to be included in her book, I was very interested in the nature of her work and took great pleasure as I watched the book unfold. Her research was meticulous, her understanding was sensitive and profoundly respectful to the knowledge she researched. Her interest in the sharing of others thoughts and experiences of those times showed someone who had a deep passion for the subject and its underlying truth.

All this is reflected in her wonderful book. I find it contains a depth of knowledge which will fascinate all those who seek to understand this little known time so many people are fascinated to explore.

The question has to be-why are they? This in itself is a true crux as to why the book was written. Shirley, like many, felt a need to explore this ancient knowledge like a revisiting of her past, and in that lay a need to share her discoveries and intuitive reactions with others. And so "Lemuria and Atlantis- Studying the past to survive the future" was born.

I believe that now as man evolves more into truth as part of the new earth, he has a greater need to explore a deep past which may well have been responsible for the molding of our present selves and how we fit into the world today.

Since the times of Lemuria where man discovered physicality and merged earth and etheric bodies together, man has undergone a long journey. He has Learnt to be human and learnt to evolve as he explored all aspects of his world. This was evidenced so strongly in Atlantis with two groups in opposition and leading to destruction. One aspect of this is exemplified in my chapter called "Diadenon" (appendix 1).

Many believe now is the time when man is asked to unite with all selves and merge into union with the fullness of soul energy which is the self. In this-we are asked to release all that no longer serves us from all lives. It is as if we stand here in this century-yet behind us all others we have been line up waiting to be part of us - as union of all as One.

To achieve this-we are asked to release all that no longer serves us, but also to embrace all that does. As we shed and embrace these layers, we become more of our full selves and so we stand ready to part of the New Earth.

Since many of us begun in those earliest of days, where our blue print as human began, many find a need to go back and explore those times. There is little available that we know of, although there is much in the artifacts that have been discovered and yet have not been understood. Shirley has done a wonderful job unearthing much of this with careful and painstaking research. But she has gone further. She has used this evidence she has collected with the past life memories of many who she has sought out. This has added credence to her findings as one supports the other. But in these memories lie a depth of truth.
These truths shared by others are anecdotes of a forgotten past and add such a depth of knowledge. The stories and comments convert the book into a living treasure of knowledge, and this is its great offering to us as readers.

I am proud to be in this book; it is of a very high standard and offers an amazing collection of sourced facts for us to enjoy reading, to reflect on.

Shirley felt a calling to write this book at a time when this knowledge was so needed. She is to be commended on such an undertaking. The book is well researched, beautifully written, warm and very readable, making it a true favorite for all who seek to read about such an important time in earth history.

I embrace Shirley for her work and look forward to her next book, for as well read as I am , I find her work totally absorbing and satisfying while being an thoroughly enjoyable read as well.

I love getting information about different theories on ancient civilizations, and this book does provide some theories and gives good basic information. It's not a book you will walk away from and think was well written. Although it does give much information, it does not give a lot of supporting evidence, rather it sounds like pieces of other peoples materials sewn into a book printed under Ms. Andrews' name. One thing she does well is cite information taken from other resources. All in all Ms. Andrews' book is a good read if you are looking for some basic knowledge and would like a whole lot more questions after reading than what you went had going in. For better information try one of her cited sources!

1.0 out of 5 stars Amateurish, haphazard, conjecture filled waste of time, October 29, 2010

This review is from: Lemuria & Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future (Paperback)
I will start by saying that I am convinced of the existence of both Atlantis and Lemuria. This is one of many books I've read on the subject and I have to disappointingly report it is one of the worse ones I've suffered through in a while. Essentially you will find here a haphazard collection of speculative information about a lost civilization with the most frequent "sources" being various dreams (generally from 'anonymous" sources), psychic visions and spontaneous memory recall, quotes from other books of similar type with just enough science data thrown in to give it a semblance of plausibility, however much of the harder hitting science mentioned has either no indexed cross reference or very tenuous ones at best.

The conclusions are often entertaining in their naiveté, for instance when attempting to create a supposed "proof" for the pre native aboriginal people's in South Carolina (who lived by rivers) heredity link to Atlantians, the author offers the following hyperbole: " The pre-Clovis people were more dependent on fishing, which indicates that they probably came from an island home, where the ocean waters surrounding the land made fishing a natural occupation"......

The contradictions are plentiful and the material is generally organized like an inside of a schizophrenic's closet. The author fills in the massive gaps with often embarrassing conjecture and very clear personal bias from the New Age "love and light" camp. For example in chapter 15 when speaking of the blame for the destruction of Atlantis in equal measures a meteor crashing into the planet is coupled with "another source of the catastrophic devastation lay in the thoughts and inclinations of the people. Their lack of affection for our lovely world, their selfish aspirations, and their immorality were contributing factors, (...) many of the inhabitants of Atlantis were so sinful that the elements combined to bring a conclusion to their dreadful actions"

This line of conjecture reasoning reminded me of watching the, now thankfully departed, Jerry Falwell's declaration from the still smoking remnants of the World Trade Centre " that 9/11 represented God's judgement on America's sinful behaviour" Pagans, abortionists, feminists & homosexuality were all liberally used as the reasons for the towers falling.

Honestly, the only reason that this book deserves a single star is that it features a number of follow up sources in the biographies section, particularly bringing to light the work of James Churchward and the works of Edgar Cayce which readers may otherwise have not been exposed to.

While this book is interesting it comes across as a little "loose" in its research. I find it hard to take this book seriously but if you're interested in the subject then it's a good read.
